Appointment at a counter?

If you've made an appointment with a MAC counter before, what was it like when you went?

I'm going this weekend for Strange Hybrid, and I've never actually had an appointment before.

Do they do the whole face? I'm not sure if I should show up with a bare face, with just foundation...or...?

Everytime I get my makeup done I always start with a bare face (although i don't walk around with a bare face, so i'll remove my makeup when i get there).

Seeing as you're going for a Strange Hybrid event, they will probably ask you whether there were any particular colours that you want to try.

If you're very picky about your makeup (which I am), then make sure you're clear on what you want.

Last Friday i had my makeup done at the Strange Hybrid event at my store, and i hated it. I told the MUA that I liked moonflower, fertile and floral fantasy, thinking she would pick one or two and use those. Instead she used all 3 on me, including Rose Blanc. I personally do not like the 'rainbow' look on me, or lots of different colours, and I made the mistake of not telling her that.

Have fun and post pics when you're done!

I just went the other day, for wedding make up. I didn't have as good an experience as I wanted, but here's what happened.

I had full face on because I'd heard you get better service that way. She had me take off my eye make up but not my mascara or foundation. It was mostly eye stuff, with a little lip stick and blush.

I don't know if that was standard or not. In the end I liked what I got, but little things like when she tried two different things on each eye, when we finished she just put the shadow and liner we liked better over the top of the other stuff instead of cleaning it up.

On the other hand, she was really nice about testing my boundaries in terms of colours and then listening to me about whether I was comfortable with things.

Good luck, and have fun!

I've had several appointments with them including one for my wedding (which started all this craziness!), and try to be as specific as possible about what you like, don't like and want to try. Don't make it seem like a list of rules, tho - it's supposed to be fun! As Aussiechick28 said, tell them which colours you want to use, not just ones you're interested in.

I usually have a full face done when I walk in, but they'll give me a wipe to take everything off. They've always done the whole face on me, and I take advantage of that by trying different foundations which I've been eyeing. The last time I went I kept the mascara on, tho, b/c my short sparse lashes make it difficult for them to work with.

My best appointment (i.e. one where I walked out most happy =P) was me telling the MA I wanted to try Steamy for sure, and I wanted to find a look w/ colour which isn't too overwhelming. She asked me if I may be interested in Fluidlines and recommended Shade. I said sure, and at the end I came out with Shroom as a base, Steamy on the lid and Shade as a defined line above my upper lashes. SF powder for the face, Sunbasque over the cheeks. Loved it! I wasn't at my usual counter for this one, tho, and TBH, I think she was more talented than the others...*sssshhhhhhhh*
