Make sure you are not a sample hound, however, asking for everything

Keep this in mind.. the more you buy, the more willing they will be to give samples. Become familiar with the MA's at the counter/store near you, and be gracious about asking and always saying thank you. Even though they are incredibly nice people, they still have sales goals to meet.

Well said!

All the MAC stores I've been to have given me pigment samples without hesistation when I ask - of course, I always purchase at least a few items before asking for samples, and I always thank them sincerely for letting me try the product before comitting to a full sized one. One store where I wasn't a regular at even gave me a few leftover store samples (with a very generous amount remaining) of LE pigments that were out of stock/sold out when I purchased a few other pigments, without me asking, which was really sweet of them.

If you find yourself visiting one store in particular more often, make friends with the MA as they are really sweet people - not only that I find that the MAs at my fav counter now know my likes/dislikes and therefore they can help me a lot better when I ask for a rec. The MAC MAs at the store where I am a regular will sometimes offer me samples to try when I express an interest in a new product/color.

Yeah I have gotten samples without asking when I buy a lot. And I am going to start frequenting the same stores for the reasons you mentioned. There are benefits to befriending MAC MUAs and SAs.

the next day i went back but she wasn't there, but i bought a couple things and i asked if i could try some pigments and the MA told me i could test them out at the front...i guess i should be more specific next time and ask if i can get a sample lol..

I've been rejected a few times for samples, but for the most part it's been okay. Haha, this one time, when the Originals collection first came out, I had bought something and asked about getting a sample, and the MA (who was grumpy, IMO) said they don't give out samples...and we were literally standing next to an MA who was making like 3 samples for this other woman. So I was like, "then what are those?" And she was just like, "well we usually don't." Which is a big lie because that was the first time I've ever been rejected...and she still didn't give me the sample. But it all worked out because when I went back to the store to buy the Antiqued Gold glitter, one of the MAs I've made friends with (she even gives me invites to the pre-parties now) told me they had it in stock, but since it turned out that they didn't, she pretty much literally FILLED UP a sample jar with the display glitter. I guess they had to take it away since there were none left anyway, but still! Basically my point is (in agreement with what someone said above), make friends! They come in veeeerry handy.
