Attn Monroeville, PA MAC shoppers

I don't know if there is anyone else out there that goes to the MAC counter at Monroeville Mall outside of Pittsburgh, but I was there today to check out Culturebloom...and MAC was gone! They're doing a total inventory clearance at Kaufmann's and all the makeup counters are gone. There's a Boscov's going in there in place of Kaufmann's, and I haven't been to a Boscov's in years, but it doesn't seem like they'll have MAC? I'm glad I'm moving out of the area soon, but that sucks for everyone who shopped there!

When I lived in the 'burgh 5 years ago that was my local mall and Kaufmann's a regular stopoff. Can't believe they have finally folded - there has been rumors of this for years now. I hear the downtown Kaufmann's may go out of business as well ... maybe littlemakeupboy can provide more info as he works at the MAC counter there.

I used to be an exec. at Kaufmann's in Youngstown Ohio so I can tell you some scoop....Monroeville and South Hills are closing, at this point every other one is being switched to Macy's (who owns them now as of last year) including Downtown Pittsburgh. The name change from Kauf's to Macy's should be done by April 1. I believe from what I've heard from friends of mine still there is that MAC stay at Downtown, unless they are closing the stores like Monroeville, nothing will really change vender wise. HTH

... I was hoping that Mac would be made available at Macy's when they switched over

If it's already in the store, at this point they are not gonna pull it out, but if they are closing the store it'll probably go. Same goes for Filene's and all May Co. stores. Doesn't anyone else in Pitts. sell MAC, I thought Saks did?

Since Federated bought out Kaufmann's, they're closing all the Kaufmann's in malls where the Macy's in the mall is newer or bigger, including South Hills Village (not sure about Ross Park), which means all those MAC counters will be gone. The downtown Kaufmann's will become Macy's and will still keep the MAC counter. I usually shop downtown, but it sucks that we're going to be losing so many of our counters, since Kaufmann's was the only store in Pittsburgh that carried it. I had fantasies that they would open a freestanding store in the South Side Works, but I doubt that will happen any time soon.

Oh, ok. I'm smack between Pitts. and Cleveland so I usually go to Cleveland because there's a freestanding store and can use my pro card. Haven't been to Pitts. in awhile. although it's always been one of my fave city's! Oh, and from the report I read Ross Park will not close, whoever said they weren't sure.

For the longest time now, when editing MAC website membership login, there has been a "Walnut st" location which you could subscribe to updates from. No clue what this is about since NONE of the locations within 3 states of PA are on Walnut, which makes me wonder if shadyside is a possible location for a freestanding? It's all speculation though, could easily be a technical flub.

One of the MAC managers here in Pittsburgh had mentioned to me a few years ago that MAC had planned to open a store on Walnut St but then that idea was scraped in favor of opening the counters at the mall, maybe now that the mall counters are gone they'll reconsider Quote:

That's very interesting about Walnut St. It would seem to be one of the best places to put it (though considering the eye rolls I get from the Sephora women at the very mention of MAC, they'd probably picket in front of it). An MA told me about a year ago that MAC had some plan to open a freestanding store here in 2007, but I never heard anything else about it after that. If they go from four to two counters, perhaps they'll really consider it now. I always thought Pittsburgh would be just as good a city to have a freestanding store as Cleveland, considering all the cultural events in town which require makeup artistry.

I was actually just at Monroeville today. I was hoping to pick up some MAC with my birthday money. Movers were taking out the counters when I was there. There was a lustrelips and viva glam iv postcard lying on the floor that had been hiding underneath. Needless to say, looking like a crazy person, I swooped in and picked them up. Unfortunately they are both a little bent.

I would think Shadyside would be a good spot, I mean there's a Sephora store there so shouldn't there be a MAC one. I'd still shop Cleveland since I can get there faster than Shadyside but it's a nicer area than Tower's City. I'm kinda sad about Monroeville, one of my old friends works as a manager there and I wonder what's gonna happen to her. I haven't heard from her in awhile so I hope everything's ok.

re: mac in pgh.

From what I've heard, the Ross Park Kaufmann's location will turn into a Macy's ... same store location, just a different name. MAC will stay. At the South Hills location, Kaufmann's/Macy's will move into the Lazarus store location - MAC will move with them. I'd imagine it will be the same downtown - I don't think that Macy's will actually be getting rid of any MAC counters, simply moving them. However, as far as Monroeville goes... who knows.
A MAC store would be lovely but I hope it doesn't go in Shadyside. I hate Shadyside - a MAC store (and its "exclusiveness") would be one more reason for the people who live there to exercise their 'holier than thou - my coat costs more than your house' snobbery (which is oh so abundant).

I agree that there are a lot of people in Shadyside like that, but I think the area has changed a lot in recent years. I'm a student and live in an apartment in Shadyside, so I spend a lot of time on Walnut St (at the coffee shops, bars, etc.), and I think that attitude is more show now than anything else. After all, stores like The Gap, Banana Republic, and Sephora get more traffic than the expensive boutiques. The old money still hangs around, but it's definitely become more of a student area.

Happy news! I asked one of the MAs at the downtown counter and she told me that the Kaufmann's MAC counters at Monroeville & South Hills Village were being relocated to Macy's. I just spoke with the Monroeville Macy's and they said the girls are setting up the counter now and it should be open by next week
