Bigger Eyes Without White Eyeliner

A long time lurker on this forum, I have a question that I hope someone can help me with... I'm an NW45 and I want to make my eyes look bigger. All the mags say line your eyes with white eyeliner to achieve this look. Well I just look like a crazy black chick with white eyeliner. I asked a MAC MA, another lady of color, and she lined my eyes with white eyeliner and then put black liner over it, so I looked like a crazy black chick with gray eyeliner and my eyes still look like pinpoints. So how can a woman of color make her eyes look bigger?

well...I always amp up my outter lashes and create a inner "v" like this "<" on the outter part of my eyes..smoke it out ...and place a ">" of a touch of highlighter on my tear duct :/...works for me

I was never a fan lining my eyes with white liner either. So instead I put a white, silvery, or another pale pearly colour eyeshadow in the inner corners near the tear ducts of my eyes with the colour dependent on the look I'm going for. For instance if I do a green/turquoise I could put Shimmermoss eye shadow or even Mutiny pigment in the inner corners and blend it out close to the bridge of my nose where that little dip area is. I wear thick rimmed black glasses so I always exaggerate it a little bit.

You don't have to use really, really white eye liner... try cream colored one...

And touch of a shimmery e/s in the inner corners of your eyes...

I'm w/ beautypsycho. DONT USE TRUE WHITE EYELINER! You'll look like a freak =.=" Use a more vanilla colored one~

My tips:

A beige or silvery shimmery pencil on the inner rims but note - blink hard a few times after applying and it softens the look. I think the one I have used in the past is MAC 'Buttery' but not entirely sure...

A silvery or champagne shimmer applies around the skin of the tear duct and blended slightly under the rim of the eye. I like MAC 'Phloof' or Revlon 'Pure Pearl'.

Minimal dark colours, and no liner on the bottom rims (that goes for inner and outer rims!).

A great mascara that 'lifts' the lashes and separates them. I am obsessed with my Christian Dior Diorshow and Chanel Inimitable mascara at the moment...

Correct any dark circles under the eye. An instant eye opener and it brightens the whole area!

I second Chameleonmary. I would try a champagne or gold colored eye liner. I think it would look amazing on dark skin. I'm really pale so it only looks right on me if I'm going to a club!

A concealer pencil of a tone slightly lighter than your skin tone (and waterline safe) gives you a more awake look without the harsh look of a white line under your eyes. Make Up For Ever, Shiseido and Laura Mercier have them and there's also the MAC's Studio Touch Up Stick.

maybe you should try lining the top of your eye (like on the lid close to the lash line). i have small eyes & i feel they look bigger when i line the top lashline.

shimmery gold shadows~goldmine,gorgeous gold,nylon

tan pigment is even good for making eyes pop on dark skin, anything that sparkles really. u dont have to do white!cuz i agree that it doesnt look that great even on my tan skin.

Curl your lashes! That is an instant opener. Don't forget your concealer around your eyes and temple too. You could try a gold or warm neutral eyeshadow and stay away from tightlining your eyes. I wouldn't line my eyes at all, or use a liner very close to your skintone, but don't tightline. Also you can use a dark brown mascara instead of black to open them up if you aren't too dark, if you are dark use black mascara sparingly and only on the outer lashes. It's up to you if you want to put mascara on your lower lashes, yours might be dark enough to pull it off without mascara on the bottom. The dark really closes things in so keep that in mind when doing your eyes.

Bourjouis makes a cream color that may work for you. I believe its a duo with a chocolate brown on the other end. Check it out

perhaps a creamy peach or light bronze eyeliner instead? I'm very fair so I can do the white pencil look, but I definitely think using a creamy nude or bronze instead would work. Also, layer on the mascara :]

I've tossed my white eyeliner
& have had good luck experimenting
with shroom, vanilla (pigment) , ricepaper, all that glitters...
can't wait to try nylon & dazzlelight

Try Stila Kajal in Topaz, it's kind of peachy/flesh colour and it's more natural! I love it and it stays there all day long even with my watery eyes!
