ok so Im still in the practicisng stage but Im really starting to give up with my 217 brush - to me it just seems too big to blend properly.....is it just me being a real amateur?

Wow...I know a lot of ladies swear by the 217. I have the 224 (which is bigger) and I just use the fluff at the end and make small circles to blend.

I actually had the 224 first, and that one was too big for me. Then I got the 217 and its perfect, but I think it depends on how you apply your eye makeup. I think the 217 works best when you apply your shadow shape first and then blend out with the 217, imo. Hope that makes sense...

I think its perhaps me then - must keep trying!!!! Mind you I did always think that you layered your shadow and never knew about shading certain areas first!!

I also have small eyes...while I would encourage you not to give up yet, I found I have the best results blending w/ the 275 brush. My eyes are also deep-set; the smaller size and angle of this brush has made working with what I got a little easier.

Here's my favourite tip with the brushes like 217 & 224 that can feel a little big around the crease... after you've cleaned them, gentley twist the fibers ( I do it clockwise, because I'm right handed, I suppose ) so the end forms kind of a pointy tip. let it dry like this.. after a few times you'll notice the brush has reshaped and will fit a lot better into your crease... and after you reshape it, you can also use it like a wand, too, and blend by using a sweeping motion as well as the circular motion most people are comfortable with.
hope this helps.
