Bold lips with blush?

Hello Laaaadies,

You were so helpful with my transluscent powder question (I went with Mac's new Prep+Prime powder...omg, love it! My face stays matte all day and it looks even), I wanted to ask you another...

I'm big into bold lippies...two of my favs that I wear frequently are Dame Edna's Coral Polyp and Kanga-Rouge. However, when I do the strong lipstick, I like to keep everything super neutral...put on my face powder, a little highlighter on the lids, some mascara, and go with that. I am a blush wearer, but basically only when my lip is nude.

However I saw some pics of me recently, and I look a little washed out. I'd like to buy some of Mac's cream blush. I just kind of want a nice rosey glow/flush.

My concern is that a crazy-bright lipstick WITH blushed cheeks will make me look clownish. Is that silly? Will one of the lighter MAC cream pinks be cool? I know the smart thing to do is to go try, but I find the MAC stores in the area I just moved to just kind of push the product/sale and I don't think they are always being honest with me in terms of whether or not I actually look GOOD.

So...blush with bright lips=okay, or clownish?

My skin is light-toned, and I have medium brown hair and eyes, if that makes a dif. Not a tanned girl by any stretch of the imagination.

Thanks chickas. OH one more thing!! Is there a "blush rule" for red lipsticks versus corals, or is it okay if I use the same blush colour no matter what my lipstick colour? thanks.

I think it's possible to have a bit of a blush along with bold lips as long as you don't overdo the blush. I suggest that you do the entire look first (skin, eyes, lips) then ever so carefully build up the color on your cheeks with a 187.

Please don't do the Katherine Heigl look on this webpage:

unless you like that look. I personally think there's way too much blush/bronzer going on in that photo.

As for the blush/lip color question... What I do is to sort of "match" colors, just to be on the safe side. Like if I have warm-toned lips, I dust on warm-toned blush. Or if I have pink lips, I use pink blush, coral blush paired with coral cheeks... But maybe that's just me

its generally a good idea to keep your entire face in the same color family... (ie warm or cool)

Lately, I have been getting into the brighter lipsticks too tehee...If you can get your hands on Enough Said or Stark Naked those would be amazing!! Enough Said is a warm nude peach color that adds a tiny bit of color and glisten to the cheek, its perfect for red lips IMO

I find in order to pull off the bright lips look you really need to have a little somethin on the cheeks...lately I've been LOVING Ben Nye creme cheek rouge in Sandy Rose..its the perfect "glow from within" natural flush without being too OTT. Other neutral blushes like a mauve-y color or dusty roses would look good to IMO...stick to a color your face would naturally make.
You can also try a MSF like So, Ceylon or Petticoat..

I think a lil peach blush warms any face perfectly. I live wearing peach blushes lol.It looks pretty with hot pink lips and with cool red lips, even bright purple.
