so what do you think about this sentence?
2 boys in fresno, ca were involved in an after school fight. the 14 year old killed the 15 year old with a baseball bat. all he got was involuntary manslaughter and 1 year in boot camp.

i apologize in advance for my language, but WHAT THE FUCK? how involuntary is hitting someone with a bat until they die?

i feel so bad for the family of the boy who died, the boy who killed him knew what he was doing. i don't think it's right to let ppl off the hook because of their age.

his lawyer said he "didn't intend to kill, but does need some direction."

by the time you're 14 you know exactly what you're capable of doing to someone with a baseball bat. murder is murder. age doesn't matter.

Thats insanity, he should have been tried and convicted as as adult, and dealt an adult sentence of serious jail time. If I were his parents I would be so ashamed.

Considering it was a bat (I'm going to guess it wasn't one hit and the kid was dead), I'd say it was pretty deliberate. A 14 year old knows that. Maybe a 10 year old might not, but definitely a 14 year old knows that, particularly if he's one of the ones who plays GTA (where you can beat people with bats until they're dead.)

WOW that's horrible. In these situations I always try to think of what the family of the criminal feels like. Like I'm sure the parents want to protect their son and want him to be helped but I'm sure they're also just dieing of guilt and remorse. Ya know what I mean?

Are you serious? Murderers can get life in prison or the death penalty in the States. You think a 14 year old kid should be tried as an adult? I definitely don't agree with that.

I think he should have gotten a tougher sentence but not be tried as an adult. He probably has a really fucked up childhood and the state has failed him already, most likely. Kids from healthy families generally don't kill other people. I'm not justifying his actions but there are probably grave social problems in the boys life that have to be corrected.

Hopefully he can turn his life around before he turns into a person that lives a life of endless crime.

this reminds me of a case that happen here in jacksonville, a boy killed a lil girl (his neighbor) and put her body under his water bed, the search for her went on for a couple of weeks with him helping in the search, untill his mother notice a smell comeing from his room that he tried to hide with daily use of insense she went in his room and notice a arm under the bed, this boy was charged as an adult and got life

Unless the 14 year old has mental problems (and I mean something like mental retardation not just the old bullshit excuse about mommy not hugging him enough), the 14 year old damn sure knew that beating someone with a baseball bat was 1) wrong and 2) life threatening.

His sentence is disgraceful, but not shocking. We have a serious problem of not punishing violent crimes harshly enough. This kid will commit more violent crimes once he's out of that boot camp, I would be willing to bet. When you're taught that killing someone gets you 1year in a boot camp, you really don't have much incentive to obey the law...
