Breakouts from waxing...

Hello all,

This is my first time posting s new thread so bear with me if this has been addressed before-
Can anyone recommend a product that I can use for my eyebrows before and after waxing. I used to wax and not have any problems, but since I had my son some years ago, waxing has not been the same. Without fail after an eyebrow wax, I breakout in fine bumps that itch uncontrollably- the more I scratch, the more swollen and bumpy the area becomes. It's like I've had an allergic reaction. I am currently using aloe vera gel after- it helps but I still have the urge to scratch. Help me!

Im not sure if you get this in USA, but the salon I visit (in my country) uses camphor (not sure how thats spelled lol) spray on my arms after waxing..

oh the scratchy feeling.. i get that on my legs-way too sensitive skin- i use skin doctors hair no more spray that inhibits hair growth- but dont use that on your face.. after a period of time it inhibits hair growth...

so for the eyebrows I suggest the camphor lotion or spray..

try another product. it seems like u could be a tad allergic to have such a reaction. if not try tee tree oil or something like sudocreme cos it will take the irritation out of the rash

I do but that seems to make it worse, especially after exfoliating. Thanks for the suggestions.

It's hard because you know I have to get my eyebrows waxed- maybe it's the wax they use. Has anyone tried threading- maybe I should switch to that.

I foolishly asked my tech to wax my upper lip a couple of months ago then again last weejk..and I broke out about 2-3 days later in fine tiny bumps above my lip...It happened both times so I know it's from the waxing...It never happens however on my browline....I think this area must be overly sensitive so needless to say I will not get it done again.

Threading shouldn't make you breakout because no chemicals are used and I never broke out when I did it. I break out from waxing every once in a while. IMO, you should give threading a try.

I get bad breakouts...more so on top of brow area than underneath. I had lip area done and it broke out as well. I don't know what else to use as our small city doesn't have much as far as threading goes. Mine looks more like cystic acne though

Yes girl,

Isn't it a mess! My son had his Christmas pagent at church yesterday morning and luckily when I got my brows waxed last night the aloe vera gel helped. Also she put baby powder on them prior to waxing and the fall out was minimal. I caught myself trying to be extra cute too and got my lip done as well. I got a little irratated but I fought the urge to scratch and was able to put my makeup on without a problem. Beauty is a sacrifice

This used to happen to me. I used to use Tea Tree Oil, works wonders. Aloe worked for me too, but if it's not helping try tea tree.

You're the second to suggest that. I have to hit up a Whole Foods or Vitamin Shop to get some.
Thanks girl

I get my upper lip and eyebrows waxed and breakout really bad around my mouth and somewhat around my eyebrows. The woman who does it suggested this stuff called Tend Skin. Tend Skin is supposed to help prevent ingrown hairs and really helped cut down on irritation. When using it on your eyebrows it can be a bit strong smelling but for me it's totally worth it. I know some salons carry it but you can also get it at Sephora. Hope this helps!

I'd say if your in doubt as to whether you are allergic to the wax the salon uses, you may want to ask them to do a patch test just to make sure, other than that IMO I think threading is the best way to go when it comes to shaping eyebrows, the shape you get is SO much better, and like someone mentioned before, nothing is being put directly onto the skin so theres no chance of a reaction!

wax is too harsh for the skin.. threading is the best way as not to breakout. Even Jay Manuel said this in one of the episodes of Style Her Famous, its better to tweez the eyebrows rather than waxing..

I thread them, and no breakouts or anything although I have a terribly sensitive skin.. give it a try if there is a place close to you that does it

I get only n only threading done on my eye brows as well as upper lips. It works really well. No problems, no irritation. I cant even dream of getting these areas waxed. I'd die screaming, not from the pain but from the thought that they are hyper-sensitive areas

Yea, I know am silly ....

You could use Tea-tree oil or threading, whichever takes lesser effort n gives more comfort

This is what I was recommended by my beautician because my skin gets itchy and sensitive when I get a brazilian/leg wax and it totally works.

-Before you're gonna go for the wax - maybe the morning or day before when you're showering - exfoliate thoroughly with a loofah.
-After shower use witch hazel gel.
-Then after the wax itself use witch hazel gel again

I know I would break out when getting waxed. After asking her to not put her moisturizer on the newly waxed skin and bringing my own moisturizer it never happened again. Are you sure it's the wax and not the moisturizer that she uses after waxing?

I tried threading once; the only place that does it in the area is so rude I just can't justify paying for their services.

I've done threading myself. It's really easy, doesn't bother the skin, and is certainly much quicker than tweezing. Your skins sounds as though it could benefit from trying threading instead, whether you get someone else to do it or learn to do it yourself (there are plenty of tutorials on youtube and such). Really, it just depends on how confident you are in your own abilities, but if you learn to do it yourself it will also be money saved.
