i was just starring at the new 224 that i bought from the cco tonight and i was comparring it with my 222 that i bought from maccosmetics.com and i noticed the 224 ferrules was different and flat and the encrypted thing for the woodden handle says france and my 222, 239 and 219 says japan. I grabbed the 266 i bought a while back and it said france too and it has a flat ferrules.

is that normal?

heres a picture to compare

wow, that's something i wouldn't have noticed until you pointed it out!
i think it's normal. i have one brush (224) that i've bought at a CCO (vacaville) that has the flat ferrule (made in France). i also have a 263 that has the same flat ferrule (made in France) that my boyfriend got for me from an actual mac store. but the rest of my brushes (219, 239, 242, 129) have the rounded ferrules (all made in Japan). weird...

i noticed that with my brushes as well, im sure its 100% fine and normal.

i notice the brush handles [only the handles not the bristles or anything] on my mac brushes that say france are not of good quality compared to the ones made in japan, or maybe its just my bad luck. My 259 that says made in france recently spilt down the middle as in the handle cracked in half, and my brand new mac 163? brush the one that cost me $62 says its made in france too. i was putting nail polish on the 163? and i put the normal scotch tape on the handle to make the line straight.. the black enamel peeled right off when i removed the tape, boy wuz i pissed. that never happened to my other brushes that said japan on it.

Some of my brushes say Japan, some say France and some of the MAC logo printings/embossings differ, as well. MAC has just had changes in manufacturing along the way. It's normal.

All of my brushes are from MAC.

Yeah, no worries. :]
Some mac brushes say Japan and some say France.

I know what you mean though about the cco. Some of the brushes there are so ancient I often wonder if they are legit.

Most of mine have the flat type and I happen to look for the made in France or USA just because I happen to notice some differences while using the brushbelt at the counter vs using my own set. For instance, bleeding dye from the counter #227 (Japan) vs #227 (France), no bleeding. Shedding of the counter #116 & #129. Most of the brushes that we accepted as legitamate returns were made in Japan.

Even though my personal experiences have caused me to be biased on the side of France & USA brushes, (most of my brushes were purchased between 1990-1996 and all of those say France. I think it just depends. If you think you got a bad one, try to exchange (within limits of course).

Holy smokes...my 224 & 266 (both made in France) is flat too!
I buy all my brushes from the MAC store so it's legit. The brushes are fine though but it is weird that it's different
