Buying on Amazon

I did a search for a book and found it on Amazon.
I noticed they had used one for sale.
I've only bought from Amazon a few times. I've never encountered this "used" listing.
How does that work?
Is it like Ebay?
I see that people have feedback.

Sorry if this seems like dumb question. I just didn't know that people could sell on Amazon.

I've bought many used books on Amazon before. Any individual bookseller can put up listings to sell on Amazon. You choose the bookseller you want to buy the item from (I check out the feedback, and if they have a website, sometimes i email the seller and ask specifically about the condition and if they mind to take a picture of the item) Then add the item to your cart and proceed to check out as if you were buying directly from Amazon. Amazon forwards the info to the seller, and then both the seller and Amazon email you to confirm the item. The seller ships directly to you.

I'm pretty sure Amazon guarantees the sale, so you dont have to worry too much about a seller ripping you off; unlike ebay, who doesnt get involved.

The thing i dont like about amazon are the shipping charges. Amazon pretty much dictates that shipping charges are 3.50 a book. (And when buying paperbacks that adds up quick for no good reason) Most sellers wont combine shipping/ discount shipping for a second item purchased. I prefer Abebooks.com, since the sellers can set up their own shipping rates.

Hope that helps!
