Question....

Will I ruin my brushes if I blowdry them? I'm not sure how often to clean them. I have done it only once

and I wear makeup almost every day! Eep! But BECAUSE I wear it so often, I NEED my brushes all the time! So how do I wash them, and have them dry so I can use them soon thereafter?

Please help!

I wouldn't unless I really needed to but if I was to, I would keep heat setting on cool and speed on the lowest. High speed would probably dry the bristles out of shape.

2nd..I personally would not use a blowdrier on my brushes. Try spot cleaning your brushes daily on a paper towel instead and deep cleanse at least 1-2 times a month.

I personally wouldn't use a blowdryer either, since the metal on the brush would get hot, and the glue inside (or whatever they use) would probably melt.

I like to wash my brushes at night, cuz they're always dry when I wake up, and it's not like I'll need my brushes in my sleep

I agree with everyone above.. But if you need to speed dry your brushes use the low/cool setting and point the nozzle of you dryer down the bristles so they don't get all blown out of shape. I clean my powder/foundation brushes every week and my eyeshadow brushes every 2 weeks or so with MAC's brush cleanser but some people also use baby shampoo or facial cleanser. And make sure to dry them flat on a paper towel or even a lil inclined so that the water drips down - never let them dry standing upright because the water will seep into the ferrule and ruin your brush over time. If your dryer has a diffuser attachment, on the coolest setting and set it on low, it should be ok. I do that with mine, and it usually turns out fine even though it does take a long time. I've found that blowdryers don't speed up the drying process too much, but if you're in a hurry it can definitely help. Though I mainly do it only to 'speed up' the process, not until it dries through and through.

Also, do not use your blowdryer on hot or even warm on SYNTHETIC brushes! They WILL melt and warp, trust me lol.

Ditto. I use an actual make up remover to clean my brushes. I have Mary Kay's TimeWise Soap Bar and I simply sweep my brushes across it to lather them up, rinse them and towel dry. I then lay them out and they are dry when I am ready for the next use. If I use neutral color eyeshadows I may wait a day or so before I clean them, but I clean my face brushes daily if I use them.

I let them dry overnight in a well ventilated area, elevated off the side of a dish. I shape them after washing so that they are not fluffy. Blow drying makes them fluffy and they don't work as well for applying makeup.

MAC brush cleaner usually dries really fast. The way I do it when I need to them dry quick is pour a tiny bit on some tissue and just clean my brush enough so I can use it, let it sit. Rub the brush a little more on a dry tissue and they should be ready soon.

I agree with Holly, too, except I wash my brushes w/baby shampoo after each use (I use as many as 15 to apply my makeup). When I get home from work, they're dry and I place them in my brush holder. The next morning they're ready for use.....No matter how late I'm running or where I have to go, I'm not done w/my makeup until I've washed my brushes. I own a combination of MAC, Smashbox, Laura Mercier and Trish McEvoy brushes. They're anywhere from 2 to 5 years old and are still just as full and shapely as when I bought them.
