Can MAC MA's help you get the job??

So for the past few weeks, I've been in contact with the regional recruiter for my area. I've sent in my resume and she was interested in setting up an interview for me. I'm not sure how long thats going to take though. Well today, I was at the PRO store and the manager said I should try to work for MAC. I told her I had already been talking to the recruiter about it. She then said that she would talk to Kim (the recruiter) about getting my interview sooner. Can MAC MA's really put in a good word for someone or get their application moved up? Idk they were allowed to do that. Of course I know when it comes down to it, I'm going to have to be the one who passes the interviews. Maybe she was just trying to give me hope about working for MAC. Lol.

I don't know about MAC specifically, but it's certainly likely that if the manager has a working relationship with the recruiter, then the manager would be able to push someone forward.

It sounds like to this point, the recruiter only knows you by paper (resume) and perhaps by phone, so even if you have made a positive impression, you are one of probably at least dozens at any given time. I would imagine that a manager recommending that the recruiter interview you would make you stand out from that pile of applicants.

So, if it's like any other company, the manager's comments to the recruiter should help IMHO.

yeah, i definitely agree. it can definitely give you that extra push, but also like you said, it's up to you to pass the interview for them to hire you.

people will ask & say stuff all the time, no matter what line it is. since i've started working for MAC there has been 2 people interview and i knew them and both times my manager asked me about them & what i thought. i didn't help them get an interview or anything like that but management does ask around. its a small industry and you'll see that everyone knows everyone! part of the reason why i got the job i feel is because of the people i knew and that they put in a good word for me. but i think it is a very nice & cool thing for the pro manager to put a good word in for you & it will help for sure. you have the right attitude though, and you know that at the end of the day its all on you, i bet you'll do great! let us know what happens

Should I go ahead and pick up a few applications from the MAC counters and turn them in with my resume? I don't know how much the recruiter will like it if she ends up with like 6 copies of my resume. Lol.

Yes, of course MAs can help you. It's like any other company. It often times comes down to who you know. Like the other poster mentioned you may be one a two dozen people who she's received resumes/applications from. The word of a colleague can make you stand out from the crowd and at least get you noticed.

It absolutely can.

I had an interview within two or three days of turning in my application. The manager at the counter approached me about the job and I told her that I was highly interested. I filled out the app and returned it to her the next day, and that same day the recruiter called me to set up an interview for that week.

With each copy of your app, did you send in a resume as well, to each counter/store?

Shit. You're lucky to boot. Sometimes, it seems like someone has to die before there's an opening. To think within a few days they called you and just from an application, no resume, portfolio?

Congrats!

MAs can make it or break it sometimes. I know some managers in the Bay Area that will ask the MAs' impression/opinion of the people that interviewed. They are often times trying to find people the match the personality of the counter.
