thats really bad! how can she write you up for make up?! iv had my friends tell me not to wear CoC lipglass before a night out cos it was "too bright" and "not a nice colour" and i felt a bit self concious and took it off! but thats totally diff to your situation. it seems like she could of worded it better and not threatened you with a warning!

What industry are you in? I can understand your supervisors concern if you work in a corporate environment or are customer facing for a Co. that wants to maintain a professional/conservative image. Anything other that that then its just sour grapes

I agree it is ridiculous especially in a Casino......But unfortunately if the dress code policy states you can only wear neutral makeup...I guess she had the right to say something. And one never knows..maybe the Director didn't say anything in the beginning because she really didn't care..But someone else may have said something or complained to her forcing her to say something to you. Other co-workers are usually the ones who snitch to the boss, and usually out of jealousy, "Why does she get to wear yada yada...and we don't? I thought this was against the policy". This is normally what always happened at my job...I wouldn't notice things but other employees would come to me and say I thought we couldn't wear flip flops...I would say who is wearing flip flops..Well *** but I'm not trying to get her in trouble just trying to verify if it's now okay for us to wear flip flops!" Whatever you are Absolutely snitching...But as the Mgr I was forced then to go ask *** to not wear flip flops. I know it's frustrating...but I wouldn't let it bother me too much!

I think confrontation might not work in her favor here. If this person who ratted her out is jealous then things might get worse.

I wish I could tell you what to do, venting about it is great- you're not repressing any feelings, you're letting them free! haha.

I work as a tutor and I'm always wearing bright makeup, I don't think my boss loves it but my co-workers do. He has never said anything though, of my makeup being tooooo scandalous. In my other job (pre-school teacher) I was being told that I shouldn't wear so much makeup....blah!

I agree with Tish. If it states that you may only wear neutral makeup, then it is her job to make it known to you. Maybe she just brought it up know because the person above her mentioned something to her about it.

That sucks.
One of my OLD bosses used to always tell me that my makeup was too DARK for daytime makeup....
when it wasn't..not in my opinion anyhow...I was wearing like trax & vanilla pigment ...with BLACK EYELINER...I think it's the eyeliner that made her think it was "too dark"...whatever. hahah. I DON'T GIVE TWO SHITS WHAT PEOPLE THINK ABOUT MY MAKEUP.

She couldn't do anything about it, cuz I don't think it says anywhere in our handbook about how our makeup is allowed to be..that and my dad was her boss. ahahha.

I don't think it's fair to tell someone "We're going to write you up because of your makeup." At my old job in high school, where apperance was everything and wearing makeup was a suggested, because we were dealing with the public all the time, our supervisor wrote this girl up because she was wearing too much eyeliner. The girl only had some black liner on her top lashes and on her waterline and ALL OF US wore eyeliner, so she should've written up everyone if she was going to write this girl up too. This woman's problem, was that she NEVER wore makeup because she was the boss and never dealt with the public, just stayed shut up in her office all the time. If someone ever told me about my makeup, I'd tell them to kiss my ass and move on all along to someone who has a real issue. I don't care if it cost me a job, I'm not going to have someone tell me I can't express myself through my makeup.

if the policy is that you can only wear natural makeup, then your supervisor had every right to raise it with you if she found out you were wearing brights.

As you don't actually know who told the supervisor, let it go: for all you know it could have arisen from a customer mentioning it and not one of your co-workers. (if you wear brights often, customers may have IDed you to themselves as "the girl with the colourful eye shadow")

As for threatening to write you up - i am assuming that's a written warning? i'd say that's being harsh for something as trivial as makeup, but i've met managers who would do the same thing. it's a pain, but if this person is your boss then there is not much you can do.
