Coordinating Make Up?

Do the MAC MA's have to wear certain make up?

I went to the MAC store on my lunch break (like I really needed to do that!) and all the girls were wearing pink and purple eyeshadow.

Is there a requirement or a "face for the day" that you guys have to wear?

Not at my local mac store. I go there a/b once a week and all of the girls have different makeup... unless it's a launch or something.

A lot of locations will do theme days where they do the same face chart, or same type of look look, or use the same products. For example, every Friday, the Nordie's counter wears Viva Glam.

i think it depends on the counter, cuz i've seen that too. i know a lot of counters here have their own theme days, like they don't do events, but they'll get a DJ and all wear certain accessories or even outfits

unless they plan to coordinate (like if some friends are all working or whatever)

At my main location (I freelance), we sometimes have a look that we all must wear that day. This usually happens during the weekend (about once or twice a week), more so during a launch.

In short, Yes.
In Long...
If we have launched a product line (like Technakohl) where there isn't a whole line you must wear at least one of the new products for 2 weeks.
If we have launched a major collection (like Untamed) you must wear one of the prescribed looks (we get them in our update books) every day for 2 weeks.
If it's a specific event, you may be told to wear one particular look out of the facecharts in the book, or given some kind of accessory and instructions how to work into your look. Example: for our Untamed event we all used feathers they gave us instead of fake lashes and one "look" in the book.

My store did theme days every Saturday. It was a look done by the artist in charge of theme days. Now it's every other Saturday.

For two weeks after a major launch we have to wear the looks in the update book (which is no fun for some of us since most of those looks are not made for darker skin, and I love how someone will always say mold it to fit your needs which in my book means I'm changing everything - the lips, eyes, blush - I may keep the prescribed brow look)

And we do random themes - like when we do an event. Even if the event is something small - we wll be required to wear the same look and sometimes our clothes will have certain requirments. We may have two looks and one will require pants and the other may require a pencil skirt or certain shoes to complete the look.

Sometimes we may be required to wear an elaborate mask to really get the customers in. Some people love it some hate it.

Im curious, for these "assigned" looks, do you get the necessary products free from MAC, or are you required to buy them? That seems unfair if it's coming out of your own wallet, for makeup you may not necessarily even like on yourself...

Your gratis (except for the EMS 2x/year - that's when you get to choose up to $400 of products for your personal or kit use) is actually to be used for the "assigned" looks...if you don't get your gratis on time for the launch, you can take samples home...

For my location - the looks that are created by artists within the store are not necessarily what we got in gratis, so we are now queens of substitution and mimicry. We will spend half a day when we first get a line - to find what the closest substitution for the colors, like Courage from one of the Untamed quads can be faked by using Amber Lights with Mythology over it if you are desperate.

Gratis is broken down into two looks dictated by the Update book so half of you got one and half got the other - so you have to make somethings up in order to do the looks for the theme days.
