cosmetology school

I really wanna take the esthetics course at the local beauty school..but im not sure how far that would get me... I love doing make-up.. thats my passion.. my dad isnt really for the idea.. i tried regular college but it just wasn't my thing..high school wasn't either.. but I graduated.... im just so confused.. i wanna make a good living but I dont know if having that license can help me with it..i know you can freelance or work in a salon but i just want the feeling of having something certain.... i wanna make my dad proud.. and all im doing right now is working a retail job... i just wanted to know if any of you lovely people had any feedback or advice...or experiences...it would really help! thank u so much

i would def. go to school for it. just to get ur license. some high end salons wont even let you work there if u dont have it. some wont even let u shampoo a customer's head w/o it! lol. stupid i know but i asked. i think it would be an advantage to u.

my dad wasnt to keen on the idea either (asian dads- they always want u to be doctors.) but my mom kinda convinced him.

you gotta love moms. well maybe he'll come around. i told my dad that when i get the license that i could maybe one day own my own salon. and seriously u make a lot of bank from that.

Must be a dad thing!!! lol My dad didn't really like the idea of Cosmetology school either, but eventually my mom and I convinced him. Now he thinks it's great! lol I would def. recommend getting your license. Like Mel said, High end salons won't hire you without a license. Sure you migh could work at a smaller salon without one, but if you are looking to have a long term thing with this you are going to want to work somewhere that is a little more expensive. I tried college also, I really didn't like it. I got really good grades and everything but it just wasn't my thing. Now I'm in cosmo school and I love it! I think you should go!

I'm going! I know college isnt for me. And in CA the state will pay for it (about 3grand) if you get accepted into the program.
