I hope it is ok to do this, sorry in advance if it isn't.

You might have read before that i have awful under eye circles that are literally one shade away from being black and they are full on big eye circles and seem to be permanant now. It affects my confidence alot and it makes me very unahppy. People always make insensitive comments and insist i get more sleep and don't listen when i say they're permanant and that they're only seeing them that day because i tried to go 'natural and makeup free' but obviously people can't seem to handle seeing my natural face and ruin my day.

So as you may realise i rely on concealer badly and Mac is the only company that seems to give me the quality and coverage i want without really bad textures and colours. However colour wise they are still not catering for me very well. I'm using Select Cover-Up concealer which i think is the best formula and makes me look and feel normal again when i wear it. But the best colour match in the range for me is NC42 but it is still too light on me (i am a NC43 Studio tech), NC44 is way too dark and i think it is quite misleading to say that NC44 is the next shade darker because to me it seems to be 2/3 shades darker. I know you're supposed to use one shade lighter in concealer but it is still very light and looks like i have natural looking skin colour and then 2 very light eye circles. I'm an Indian girl with light brown skin and yellow undertones, most Indians and people of my colouring generally have dark under eye circles naturally and so it seems strange that Mac aren't providing for us very well. My friend's and family who are different colouring to me but definetly between NC42 and NC44 have the same problem. There is a real need for more than one shade between NC42 and NC44, it's really frustrating to find such a big gap in the shade range and also i know people suggest mixing 2 shades but why should we pay more and have to fiddle around with 2 concealer tubes instead of just being able to apply the product straight away and be done with it. We pay just like everyone else and as a company that thrives upon being for all people and for all races i think they should be providing well for all their customers. I'm not complaining as such and I understand that the best way to help them help my problem is to let them know my concerns and ask them to create my shades. I have emailed them and my concerns have been forwarded to the product development people so i am hoping to seem some developments.

I was thinking if more people ask for this change then they may be more likely to research into this and bring about soloutions. They can only help if people give enough feedback. I would be very gratefull if any of you lovely people could email them to ask for the same thing on mine and all the other people of my colouring's behalf, it would make such a difference to my confidence and my happiness if i could just look and feel normal and enjoy the fun side of makeup instead of always worrying if my eye circles are showing or my conclealer looks horrible. You can email them by clicking on the 'customer service' icon at the very bottom of the page and then clicking on the 'contact us form' on the left side. Politely outline the problem and suggest they there is a real need for more than one shade inbetween NC42 and NC44 for the concealers and foundations but in particular for Studio Select Cover-up.

Thankyou in advance to anyone who emails.. I really appreciate it so much.

Aw, hon, that's terrible! I mean that you feel you can't go out with a bare face because of comments people make.

Sometimes people do tend to get darker eye circles, it's just the luck (or curse) of genetics. Do you have sinus problems? The reason I ask is that when I do (fairly regularly, but they're good for now), my undereyes look awful - not black but bruised.

I went to a naturopath and she did this treatment on me called 'ear candling'. It might sound a bit odd, but I had so much fluid in there; it wasn't just the dreadful appearance, it was painful. Perhaps you could try it out or find out more and it might lessen your problem?

In the meantime, just tell people you're aware of the circles, and thanks for the advice but it's not entirely helpful. Or tell them that you're aware and that you don't want to talk about it.

Geez, why are people so insensitive?! I really feel for you...

Have you tried the NW range? Sometimes it seems like the depth of the shades between NC & NC vary a bit. And I know NW is supposedly 'pinker' and 'more cool', but IME, it's still quite yellow-toned (I'm neutral and can wear NW better than NC)

Mspixieears - Thankyou. I know it really gets to me but people can be complete twats.
I've heard about ear candling but i'm not sure i show any symptons for that. Is there any symptons? And is there a website which tells me more about it?

I've tried creams and stuff and i'm still trying stuff and always on the look out for things which might help them fade but currently the best course of action for me is using a good concealer and so thats why this problem with the shades is frustrating.

If anyone is willing to email them then can you post to say you have just so i know.

Thankyou

Hey Sushi_Flower, re. ear candling.

http://www.lynnehancher.co.uk/aaahop.htm

I just did a search on Google. You should do one, though there seems to be a lot of sites that say candling is a fad and bad one. You should definitely consult a physician/naturopath - please don't try it yourself. I personally don't understand it myself, but after 3-4 years of struggling with chronic sinus infections, and lifelong bad balance and intolerance to pressure change (very painful in lifts/air flights), I thought what the hay.

I wish I could help you with this one but Im not really an expert in this area..I would however suggest using a lighter cover up.. Maybe try putting it on after your foundation? See if that helps any. Good luck, and if you do find something that helps please share it with us here

People can be so mean!

The girl that works with me has the same exact problem. Our patients always ask her if she is getting enough sleep or if she is rested. And when she tells them yes, they ask her why she has such dark circles under her eyes. She gets very embarrassed about it!

I saw an advertisement in a magazine that I told her about. It's a product for people who have serious dark circles. Here's the website for it....www.hylexin.com

I don't know anything about it, but it might be worth looking into. Good Luck!

I saw Hylexin at Ulta today. It's pretty pricey... but if it works, it's worth it... right?

I'd look into it...

I have severe dark circles too - but only on one eye - people always ask if I got into a fight! lol! Hylexin is a waste - don't throw your money away. I find that one of the best ways to deal with severe circles is to use a heavy white concealer and then tone it with your ideal foundation. I have sat at makeup counters for hours as they tired and tired to get me looking natural, but I ended up leaving sore and frustrated. If you don't want to invest too much, just get a cheap white drug store concealer and then lay your foundation over top. I also hear that dermablend has fabulous coverage, althought I'm not sure about the color range.

You are not alone,

I feel for you, really I do. I have pretty bad dark circles as well, and I use the lighter concealer as well, and then I apply bronzer on top to make it match my skintone. Maybe that would help you too? I hope some of this stuff helps you! Also, I like using MAC's concealer brush for my undereyes.

Thanks for all the reccomendations, it's also nice to know other people have similar problems..

I'm curious..has noone noticed the original reason i posted this topic? I would be very gratefull if other people could just send a very quick email to them outlining the problem and suggestions i mentioned before. I'm so sorry if i am being annoying about this, it would just make such a difference to me, you have no idea.

Hey Sushi-flower...dark circles certainly are troublesome! I have had a lot of luck concealing very dark circles (especially on women around NC 40 - 55) with an NW concealer. The reason why MAC does not have a huge selection of shades in the nc concealer range from NC40-50 is that they usually dont work well anyway....especially with really dark circles, they make you look a little jaundiced. Here's my suggestion: go to the mac counter and ask to try on an NW concealer a little lighter than your number in nc...I had an east indian woman come into my counter with the same problem (its quite common, dont feel alone!) She was NC 45 in skin tone, but I used an NW25 concealer to highlight her t-zone and she looked amazing...with the warmer, pinker shades especially under the eye, for NC's who have a lot of gold/yellow in their skin, the pink counter-acts the yellow and warms everything up...for everyday usage, i would reccomend using an NW30 if you are around an NC40....but get an artist at your local MAC store or counter to match you up....im sure you will see some improvement! I hope that helps...lemme know if it works or not...
