Hi, i'm pretty new to this. I've searched through thread after thread, but there isn't quite the answers i'm after. Unless i've missed it. which is likely with me!

I've just started my make up artistry 6 week course. This is a beginning for me, i'm hoping to really get into it. I'm a nail/beauty therapist already, and i'm hoping to do fab bridal & prom looks in the summer. I've also been a makeup fan in a big way since as far as I can remember.

So.. now... after my background (ish!) I class you guys as my experts! I'm trying to get a definitive list of your favourite kit items. whether as a working MUA or as an enthusiast.

I can see on the forums there are favourites here there and everywhere. I'm majority mac hopefully, but I understand I can add items from other ranges to make my kit a good all rounder (to cover most bases, obv not all) Also the non cosmetic bits and bobs like party feet, crochet hook, needleand thread etc lol

SO far i've been recommended...

MAC face and body - shades N2, C3, C6
MAC prep & prime face
Dermacolor mini conceale palettes in fair med & dark
Kryolan setting powder

So far i've bought some MAC pigments too, in neutral colours.

Hopefully you can help, and then I can collate all the info and put it into a list for myself, and to help other newbies.

Thanks x x

what one person loves, another will hate. same goes for colours and such.... but here is a list of my fave make up items -

*mac fix + spray -great for taking away the cakey look, and also good for foiling pigments
*clear lip gloss - this is any brand - it's so you can mix pigments into a gloss because some look amazing on the lips! like pink opal makes a wonderful lipstick topper and pink pearl looks amazing as a gloss!
*teal and violet pigment - my two fave pigment - look awesome in looks together!
*dazzlelight shadow - the best highliters shade ever! it's much better than shroom because it has more payoff, but still looks natural

*dazzleglasses - fabulous glosses which are full of glitter - the colour payoff is slim to none - it's the sparkles that look amazing! but these are pricey

I'm not expert, but I think White face and body would be great to have too, cuz you can lighten up foundation too.
A colour correcting concealer palette would be really useful too.
Also, just in terms of face primers, Illamasqua Satin primer and matt are really good, matt is better on more oily skin, and stain is great on dry skins.

Look into Amazing Cosmetics' concealers. These are amazing. They have staying power, are waterproof, and a little goes a long way.

NARS - Orgasm Blush This looks good on just about everyone.

A good highlight eyeshadow - there are plenty of these. Some of my favorites are from MAC. Shroom, Rice Paper, Phloof! Any of them will do.

Some of my faves are: (in no order)

Korres wild rose moisturizer- Cause it makes even the most dry crusty skin look amazing

Ben Nye set powder- Perfect finish and the shade range is amazing

MUFE flash color palette - you can use these as shadows, bases, lip or cheek color, liner and you can mix damn near every color under the sun with it

Guerlain Terracotta bronzers - these puppies look good on everyone and they are the perfect balance between matte and satin

Ben Nye Face Sealer- holds up under anything

A matte pure black and pure white shadow for shading and highlighting (brand doesn't matter to me but I tend to buy shadows larger than MAC for basic colors just cause in a kit they last longer)

Nars deep throat (fair skin), orgasm (all skin execpt for super deep), dolce vita (tan skin) & exibit A (deep skin) blushes. - these last forever and the colors blend and look like a dream

Graftoban foundation palette - can match damn near every skin tone on earth with this sucker

RCMA foundation thinner - allows for a ton of control

um... there's a ton more but here's the of the top of my head stuff for the moment.

Speaking from experiance, I like palettes when it comes to foundation/concealer and lip/eye/cheek stuff... for three reasons

1) the more colors you can mix yourself and the more freedom you have to customize to your need at the moment

2) small and compact is always better. people steal stuff. you often have little space to work with. stuff gets lost. and most important, makeup gets damn heavy when you have to much of it with you.

3) It end up being cheeper in the long haul

the other thing I would mention that makes something essential to me is... does it serve more than one purpose?

can you use that handy dandy Ben Nye face sealer to make a shadow into a water proof liner? Heck yea you can!

Will that blush work as a shadow or vice/versa?

Can I use my cream products as lip/eye & cheek colors (oh MUFE flash color palette I love you so)

also I look for products that are very pigmented... and not just in shadows... in everything. This way I can mix them down to sheer them out and they last much much longer. It is much cheeper to replace a mixing medium than a whole palette of foundation or a cream color palette.

ahh now I ramble.

If I think of more stuff I will pop it in later.

I like this thread... I wanna see what everyone's faves are and I can't wait to see your list!
