Different methods of application for Studio Fix (Powder)?

Hello!

First, I'm really sorry if this has been asked a zillion times before! (I have done a search honest

)

I've been wearing Studio Fix in N3 on and off since the 1990s (je suis ancient, lol). I do love it, especially for evening, but some days it just looks a bit "heavy" if you see what I mean. I've never found any other product that was as good a colour match, and wondered if there were ways I could tweak the application to get a lighter look?

I use the sponge to gently 'press' the product on, then buff lightly with a kabuki.

I'd love any application tips, (and any recommendations for other products, MAC or otherwise, that might add to or replace my beloved SF!)

My skin is pale, neutral (hence N3

) dry/combination, generally fairly clear, with some enlarged pores on the T-zone and tendency to breakthrough shine. I wear some Clinique pore gel stuff (colourless) underneath on my T-zone and a tiny bit of Laura Mercier translucent powder on top of T-zone, then use blotting papers and sometimes a bit of 17 pressed powder for touchups.

I really, really hate to feel (or look!) like I've got tons of makeup on, Studiofix is the heaviest thing I can tolerate (I tried a MUFE foundation a few years ago and it was a great colour but far too heavy for me). I know, I'm SO very fussy!

There's only one MAC counter in my city and it's generally besieged by thousands of pushy teenagers, so I'd like to hear some wisdom before I try and chat to a MA!

I just use a big fluffy powder brush to apply it

Works great and doesn't leave it looking cakey.

I use the #150 to apply it but I use it on top of my Studio Sculpt as my skin need more coverage.

Thanks! I'll experiment with using different brushes and see how that affects the finish.
I had a wander down to the MAC counter last night and unfortunately all their other foundations are too dark for me, so I think I will stick with Studio Fix but probably defect to Bobbi Brown for a different texture.

I just use a sponge. I've tried putting it on with different brushes but I feel I have more control with a sponge.

Try using a large powder brush like the 150. Lightly dust it over the skin and blend. Using a large powder brush and only dipping once or twice will help give a lighter application, where with small brushes you have to dip and apply many more times.

i like to apply it with the 187 brush, it looks very airbrushed also mist your face with fix+ afterwards, it takes away the "chalky" look and makes it more natural.

I have been using my Becca creme bronzer/blush brush. It's kind of like the 190, a synthetic foundation brush.

I use my 129 brush I think it is... and apply it all over and building up coverage as needed. I had used a kabuki brush before and always found it to make it go on with a heavy look. I love the 129 for this cause it looks much more natural and I don't need to apply as much while still getting quite a decent amount of coverage.
