i need a new one because my billion year old 5.0MP one isn't cutting it for me anymore (though i still love it, and it is a pretty sturdy little machine. holler at kodak!) so i'm looking to get a new one for clearer, high quality pictures. i was thinking about getting a sony cybershot 12.1MP but it's $400 so i'm not too stoked about that. any suggestions?

i want a camera with an auto focus type feature that will ensure clarity in the face and maybe blur the background a little, if that's possible to find in a point and shoot digital camera. uhh...if anyone has any sample type photos from their cameras, that would be wonderful.

I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80. I got it a few weeks ago and I LOVE IT! IT WORKS GREAT. And It was $250~ way cheaper than the $400 one! You should look in to it!

I have a sony cybershot and it kinda sucks. The memory stick holder broke and the usb cover broke. The colors just aren't as true to life as the canon's are too. I just got a canon powershot for $450 and I LOVE it! Its a s3is and it's kinda big, but they make smaller ones that show colors great aswell.
Good luck!

Canon canon canon! Whatever you get, make sure it's a canon! They're really good! I'd rather have a lower MP canon than a higher mega pixel something else.

I recently stepped up to the plate and, after years of buying the smallest, slimest, sexiest point-and-shooters I could find, I went to the big leagues and bought a Nikon D40, a low-end digital SLR. It's a joy to use, and it takes fantastic pictures. All the pictures on my flickr page ( http://flickr.com/photos/96084465@N00/ ) I took with my Nikon D40. And it does have autofocus and all that, so you can use it basically just like a point-and-shoot if you want. It's about $600 for the 5 MP model, and $700 for the 10 MP, I think, but really, megapixels are overrated. My mom as a 12 MP point-and-shoot kodak and the quality of the pictures that my D40 takes blow hers out of the water. MP is just how big the pictures are, but it doesn't matter if they're bigger and don't look as good.

My mom recently bought the Sony Cyber-shot you're talking about for me because my previous Canon SD450 5MP kept freezing up (very sad day, I loved that camera) and then suddenly stop functioning all together (I am sending it in to get fixed though--don't want to let it go, haha). The DSC-W200 with 12.1 MP and I have to say, it has completely blown me away. I used to be all about Canons, and yes, while they do make a lot of great cameras, I've realized that there are other manufacturers that make great cameras as well. So after doing a ton of research, I settled on the W200 and I can truly say I am very happy with my purchase. It's my carry-all camera so it's great for non-serious picture taking (I reserve those occasions for my digital SLRs).

If you have the money for it, definitely purchase it. But I suggest taking test shots, doing research, and whatnot to make sure it's the camera for you.

And word of advice, mega pixels are only important for when you're printing out pictures . . just because a camera has more megapixels, doesn't mean that the picture quality will be any better than another with less.

Because I have nothing better to do with my time, here are some sample shots. Yeah, they are a bowl of ramen but I was just taking some test shots. They were taken with no flash and on the automatic setting.

Hope this helps you!

They're unedited besides the black border added. Couldn't be more happy with the DSC-W200!

If I were to get a new camera, I'd go with Canon or Nikon. www.cnet.com for reviews, but I also suggest going to the stores and playing with camera (then ordering online, because stores are generally more expensive). With some of the point and shoots, the controls can be a pain to maneuver because of how small they are

I think the feature you're looking for is called "Portrait" function on cameras.

You're too cute!

There are other brands out that make incredible cameras besides Canon and Nikon. Stay away from Samsung, HP, Epson, and Panasonic. But ultimately getting great results from your camera really comes from knowing your camera well and understanding its features. I have seen some not-so-great photos come from Canons, so don't assume that just because you have a Canon your pictures are going to come out great. It moreso comes far your personal knowledge of achieving top-quality photographs.

By the by, I used to own two Kodak digital cameras but was never really thrilled with either of them. They took great pictures in daylight but once indoors or without enough lighting, the pictures were absolutely horrid. Nice to see you had such an awesome experience with yours. Mine sucked balls, haha.

Kodak EASYSHARE V1003 10mp is a wonderful camera! It's had a good price tag of $229.95. It also comes in 10 colors!

You may also look into cnet.com. They do reviews on electronics, and the reviews are very helpful!

I had a Sony Cybershot &the casing was aweful. The screws that hold the casing kept falling out &I kept having to send it in to get fixed. I was without my camera half the time because of it. Not to mention the picture quality wasn't nearly as good as I thought it would be for the price ($400). So I got fed up. I fell in love with the Canon SD800 IS Digital Elf. My boyfriend picked up on the hint &bought it for me back in March. I LOOOOOVE IT. The quality is soooo much better than my Sony was. I'm a Canon girl now!

I have two cameras and i love them both, but they serve different purposes, anyways, onto the camera

one is Fuji FinePix S5600, it's excellent for long distance shots with 10x optical zoom and then some extra zooms and the quality on zooming in is excellent, and also is good for things like photoshoots

some pics taken from Fuji FinePix S5600 (click to view larger size)

a picture that i took at a wedding i was photographer for

my other camera Fuji FinePix A800 is fabulous on taking close up photos but not so good on long distance with 3x Optical Zoom It's compact too which is ideal for carrying around in a small purse.

some examples of pictures from this camera

Overall people do prefer Nikon or Canon, i havent used either but just posted my opinion on the two i have and they're really good, especially A800.

you can see various price comparisons on Amazon

I have an Olympus point and shoot camera (not sure on the model as it's not with me right now) - it just makes everything look so stark rather than striking! Even on a night out I find my friends' Cyber Shots or Samsungs take better photos - and that's not even being all creative!
thmbdn.gif

Worst still, when I'm trying to be creative I can't manually adjust things for instance like the flash levels, ISO and white balance. Or play about with the aperture, so it means my photos can't even show the real potential of my make-up!

I think I'm gonna have to save up for a Canon or Nikon - I played about with my bf's parents' Canon and loved it! I really want one that I can use to be creative with my FOTDs etc!

I am in love with my cybershot. I have the blue one it was around $200 but it's the 7.2mp not 12.1. I highly reccomend it to anyone, especially those who want to do makeup shots, it does insane close ups!
