Do you think Search Engines should store your queries?

I personally dont login to any sites when using a search engine, but i'm sure that doesn't stop it from loggin my IP. Which if course contains other personal information about me.

I dislike this invasion of privacy, if only because I dont know what they are storing. I'm not against then storing information, but I would prefer an option when searching to not have the search engine save my requests. As well as a verifiable way to know it's deleted.

I understand the reasons behind it are innocent, advertising customized to each and every individual, with the types of goods and services they are interested in. But at what cost?

Google and any other engine (they all store it, memory is so cheap right now, compared to the value of information) can probably build a profile of almost all of us, from our hobies, interests, wishes, dreams, and deepest secrets. I know due to the percieved anonomous aspect of the internet, people are MUCH more willing to be open about things in their lives that really should remain private. I dont mind talking about personal subjects on the internet because for the "most part" it's anon. But I really dont want to start recieving letters in the mail, and popups on my PC regarding my casual interest in Anarexia, due to my borderline Ana habits. Thats private.

And how secure is this information really? It's obviously availible to advertisers, who else? And just because Google says it's safe, nothing is perfect (look at the recent AOL blunder).

Your thoughts? I have a love hate relationship with the pace technology is developing. I like new toys and services like anyone else, but I also dislike the smaller and smaller bubble of privacy that we are living in, only because for the most part, i have no say in it, and I dont think thats right.
