Do You Trust MUA's w/o Eyebrows?

Well, 'tis the season, so this afternoon, I had my sister cut my hair and I shaved off my eyebrows, as I usually do this time of the year.

Odd, perhaps, but I enjoy the androgyny that eyebrowlessness brings.

However, I wasn't booking as many makeup jobs last year. I enjoy my look without eyebrows, and though I'm sure I could slap some on, either with a pencil, some brow powder, or by cutting fake mustaches in half, I like not having them somtimes.

I guess my point is is that, as a customer, would you be put off by a MUA without brows?

Not in the slightest. I used to shave mine off all the time and I'd only draw them on when I went out clubbing. The rest of the time My face was bald lol. So it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

I wouldn't. But it certainly depends on where you live and what type of clients you would like to cater to.

No one would be able to answer that question better than you. But I wouldn't be put off by it.

I probably wouldn't be put off by it. i've seen some people without eyebrows altogether and it did look odd, but i think it really depends on how the rest of you looks too. not to say that I'm just focusing on physical looks, but lets say you just looked like a girl who shaved off her eyebrows--I'd be cool.

if you looked like a bald, light-bulb head no eyebrows/eyelashes or anything, I might be a little weirded out lol.

j_absinthe, almost all of your posts crack me up! lol

I'd come to you.

This topic reminds me of the comedians who ask, "Why do you shave 'em off to draw 'em back on?!?!"

I agree with Twinkle_Twinkle: no eyebrows=no biggie... bad makeup=run in the other direction.

To be honest, my first thought was that there are so many reasons that someone might not have eyebrows (both by choice and not) that I would certainly hope to not judge someone by that.

As a customer, I would not be put off by you not having any eyebrows. However, I'm from New York City and I'm accustomed to seeing all kinds of looks. I don't know what your city is like. If it is somewhat conservative, then some people may be put off by the no eyebrow look. Do you think there is a correlation between the no eyebrows and your booking of makeup jobs? If you think there is, try some days with eyebrows, and others without and maybe you will be able to see if there is any direct relationship between the different looks. Then you can decide what you want to do. Ultimately, you have to feel comfortable and good about your look, even though I know you want to book as many makeup jobs as possible. Good Luck, and just go do your thing. LOL

Well, I'm in Chicago, and I'm accustom to getting more...interesting clients and jobs. I'm just worried, because I'd like to get some consistent jobs, like counter work, and I'm not certain how people would react on that level. Sure, I can always sue for discrimination, but I can't do much for clients who are get freaked out by it-often times because you're a representation of your work, and if you (er, me) don't have something like eybrows, clients may suspect that you can't do them properly.

Perhaps I'm just paranoid. Thanks, Specktranese ladies.

It really depends on what cosmetic company you'd try to get counter work with, if it's MAC maybe non-eyebrows could work, but at other more conservative brands it could work against. While I wouldn't be put off by it, I'd find weird to see someone at a Bobbi Brown, Estee Lauder, Benefit, Clinique counter without brows.

For me, if someone's makeup was slamming (whether natural or over-the-top), it would probably take a few beats before I even noticed that the brows were missing. I might think immediately something was different, but if the makeup was so nice that I was focused on it, it would probably not jump right out at me.

My involvement with the American Cancer Society maybe makes me less likely to think twice about no brows.

I never think twice about lack of brows, probably because Ive been dealing with a family member who has been getting chemo though.

Still, I dont think most customers, or companies, would discriminate based on brows - or at leasr I hope they wouldnt. Mostly because there are so many health issues that can contribute to hair loss...

Do I guess as long as you do a great job there shouldnt be a problem.

How long does it take for your brows to grow back? I thought about shaving mine off but after both blocking them out and learning it could take 6 months - 2 years for the follicles to get out of shock, I decided against it.

Oh and it wouldn't deter me.
