Does being in the database earn you "points"?

Hi everyone.

I have always wondered if being in the database will earn you points or something. I know MAC doesn't have giveaways or anything but what about events? I've always wondered how people get invited. I thought maybe it had to do with how much money you spend if you're in the database.

I am not sure.. probably not but I know being in the database doesn't mean anything to the MA..

I've been in the database since May and last week I went to a freestanding store I've never been to, and she was asking me questions, "do you know about our recycling program?" and other stuff I had already known. It was just funny I think she asks me because that was the first time I was there.. but I b2m-ed once and she should be able to see I had bought lots of stuff ever since I was there

I don't think that's entirely true. When I was an employee, I was told by my manager and SRM that at the end of every sale I was supposed to ask the customer about the Back2MAC program and Viva Glam. If they didn't know, I further informed them. Or if they already knew, I was supposed to remind the customers of them. And while the database does keep track of your purchases made in a freestanding store, that list does not automatically come up. I only brought up that list when a customer could not remember a certain product that they had purchased.

To the OP -- Being in the database does not earn you points. MAC does not have a program like that -- though B2M is a very generous customer service that they provide. It does however earn you the privilege of being able to participate in the extended B2M program, where you can B2M for prolongwears, mineralized eye shadows, and so forth (I can't remember the exact list but it wasn't just regular eyeshadows and lipsticks/lipglosses/lipgelees). At the store where I worked, your complete information (address, phone number, email) all had to be inputed into the database if you wanted to B2M for products other than the standard options.

Gotcha! I was just wondering since I had spent a lot of money the other day at MAC and the database was down.

I highly doubt it, I think it's more for sales tracking/numbers for the store. I've been buying MAC for a decade+, been in the database as a hardcore buyer for at LEAST five years, and I still rarely get mailers or invites to events. It might be because I've moved a few times, but they HAVE my updated address, so that doesn't really make sense. Once in awhile I still get a postcard at my parents' house.

I'm not sure it makes that huge a difference in the UK either. Although the MAs always give a little smile when my details come up after I tell them I'm already on the database. Do they highlight the MACaddicts? lol

yes i think its just in the US. but you aren't supposed to be able to get prolongwears or MES. they are specifically mentioned as being excluded in the extended b2m program info.

That is interesting about the extended B2M... How do you get to that point? (If it is in the B2M thread... I can find it there?)

you go to a mac store, give them your name, address, etc. and choose between a shadow, lipstick, or gloss.

at our store (freestanding) they do allow prolongwear but we dont do pro-pan eyeshadows (which people thought we did).

and no you dont get "points" per say, but recently we have been doing "friends and family" discounts, which if you were in the database you got an email with the code to get your discount at a store (not a counter unfortunately). and yes it is required that we remind all our customers of the back 2 mac program, whether they are new or not so shaquille, she was just doing her job and trying to keep you informed, because unless she clicked on your history she wouldnt have known you had already b2m'd before.

Really? My manager posted a sign of the rundown and the side with the allowed said MES and Prolongwears, Slimshines, Mattenes, as well as some other products. The only one I remember not being allowed were the Pro pan eyeshadows.

Does the MA know what products I've bought if I'm in the database? Often times I think most of the MA at my stores put the wrong person in because my first and last name is so common. There are probably dozens with the same first AND last name.

interesting. if you look in the PKM it clearly states that MES aren't included. but then again, we never received the april '08 update. so unless its been added since november...

I have only been asked to verify once or twice. I recently started checking my receipts and most of them have different customer id numbers but the same name.

I asked an MA at my store today and they told me the same policy they'd always told me... being in the system allows you to get a regular pan shadow, a lippie, and a lip gloss for B2M but only at freestanding stores.

I have been purchasing MAC since around '95 so I have been in the database for quite a long time. I used to get postcards and event mailers mailed to me, but that all stopped a few years ago. But lately I have started getting event invites. For example, I got a phone call at home a few weeks ago asking if I wanted to participate in a free makeover for the Cult of Cherry launch. The MUA who card stated they rec'd my information from the database. So, I got my Cult of Cherry makeover last Thursday and, needless to say, walked out $100 in the hole.
