Does the Vatican have its priorities right?

What the Vatican is doing to protect dead chidlren - Vatican to review state of limbo

What the Vatican does with the living - Sex crimes and the Vatican

I'm not a Catholic but I'd far rather they co-operated fully with law enforcement authorities investigating child sex abuse by ordained members of the church than dealing with matters of the unbaptised dead. That would seem to be a just path for the church to take.

Well, I was raised Catholic...and I can tell you that in my opinion, half of this stuff is garbage!!! I have done A LOT of historical reading (much on the Medieval Catholic Church), and SO MUCH of this stuff was made up to scare people, and keep them in control. That is why I no longer practice that form of the religion. So much bullsh*t.

As for the child abuse....????? For YEARS the Catholic Church (we're speaking collectively) has done nothing but HIDE allegations of abuse, or improprieties by their own.

The masses were never made aware of all the abuse (both physical, sexual, and emotional) going on until the problem got so huge, they simply COULDN'T hide it any longer.

If there was an implied problem, (or, they downright KNEW one of their priests was a child "didler") the person under suspicion was simply moved from one diocese to another. Hardly a fit solution, IMO...they just did it to ANOTHER CHILD!!!!!

Now, I can't say I'm really up to date on the current situation...are they "properly" taking care of things?? Probably not. I hardly doubt much more is happening now...but under all the media pressure, they have to make it look like they're doing something.

Like I say...that's why I no longer see that form of Christianity fit to hold to my beliefs.

Thanks, Sarah..for posting this.

I agree 100% with you...their attitude re: child abuse, among other things, is why I haven't been a practicing Catholic for many, many years....

Facts have proven that unfortunetly these horrible events have taken place.....but lets not forget that it is the PEOPLE who have caused them...not the religion itself. I am not Catholic, but I am a Christian and I think it's wrong to say that it's "garbage"...It's not like God told all priests to start molesting children...

I'm not really sure the church knows what to do with them to be really perfectly honest.

As for the blessing the dead Children lets start with that first-thats a religious spiritual thing that is one of those things you have to walk a very thin line on. I mean many people believe that if their child who is desceased have not been baptized they are not in heaven.

So for the leader of religion if you will to the western world to say-it's just a theory is very nervewrecking to a lot of die hard catholics.

OK Now for the pedophile part-this is why I am not sure they know what to do with them. For centuries the catholic church has been a leader in the spiritual community. Rightly, wrongly whatever. In modern times (this century) they have been focusing I guess more on love and forgiveness instead of excommunicating everyone they decided they hated. Well anyway-long story short-they have been preaching this love forgiveness etc and then this happens-some of the priest I can say are probably not they just happen to get in a cross fire (this happens all the time in schools with male teachers-that if something is done to a child and they arent happy about it then they will accuse the teacher of touching them when in fact they did not). So I think they are trying to figure out who really DID do something and who really didn't. And those cases that are documented that something DID happen then the question arises to them well what do we do? If we do something to extream people will call us hypocrits if we do nothing we're still hypocrits what do we do?

And lastely i should say that since the church has been around for centuries-pedophiles will find their way into it.

What should be done about it? I dont know. I'm disgusted by it. But as mentioned above we must remember that it is PEOPLE doing the actions not God himself.

I think that's the best point. There are still good priests out there who are helping people.
