I have an account on a french website, where you have your picture and description, anyway, the point is that I received a message last night from a spammer asking me to contact them because they think Im cute.

The thing is, its an escort/prostitution website!
And they recruiting girls on the french website I go to.
I went to take a look, the description was clear, girls can come over to guys place, especially for american man who come to Montreal for vacation... and you know the rest.

I tried to find a contact on my website, to join the administrator but it was nowhere to find... So, I contacted by email the Montreal's police to tell them that on the site where I have an account the are a LOT of minors, young girls. They wrote me back to thank me.

So... On the site where I go, a guy who knows the administrator told me that I had no right to tell the police before telling him... He wrote : Are YOU minor? Do you know for sure that they ask minors to subscribe to the site?

Prostitution for me is illegal and immoral by itself, why should it absolutely be minors???

Am I missing something?

I don't think you did anything wrong. If the admins and mods know that they're recruiting for prostitution then going to the police straight up was correct.

Anyways, they shouldn't have anything to worry about, with the police, if they're a perfectly legal site. I'd be way more suspicious now that they were upset for you going to the cops.

He told me that escorts are legal...

I am sooooo not sure about that one
He says, if the owner of the site learns about you, I would be carefull if I were you.

I dunno about prostitution in Canada but I found this site about it...

Escort services are meant to just be dates for people but you're probably right, that they are made up of call girls/prostiutes. No matter what, it's still best that you let the police know and I'd call them about that threat. They might be able to track the guy down via his ISP.

You did nothing wrong. I'm not terribly familiar with the prostitution laws of Canada, so I'll take your word that it's illegal. If there are signs of illegal activity, you don't have to inform the person in charge of the site.

Some people believe that once you're of the age of consent, whatever you do it your own business. I think that's what the site owner was trying to argue. It's much more palatable for an adult to prostitute herself (because we assume free will and that it's an active choice) than a child.

Escorts are technically legal, at least in the US. I'm pretty sure that there's more than escorting (being a paid date) than what's in the advertisement, but it's not officially paying for sex.

Just to be on the safe side, document every single piece of communication from this website. Better safe than sorry...and you didn't do anything wrong!

You definitely did the right thing by telling the police, especially if there are a lot of minors on the site. And the guy must be doing something illegal if he's angry and threatening you for telling on him. If you still have the message where he threatened you, I'd give that to the police as well.

Good for you! Even if escort service is legal, we all know it wouldn't stop at a 'date'. lol! you totally did the right thing.

You did the right thing, but HOW did they find out that you contacted the police? That's scary!

Actually it was the guy on the message board where I go who told me that. Sorry for the missunderstand. But anyway, many people on the board told me I did right, even a girl studying in police class. (the site where I have an account has also a message board...)

So the guy (moderator of the board) told me anyway to be carefull because the administrator of the escort site could come on the board... I guess its possible, but only if someone told him.

Anyway, I reported it to the police, my civilian job is done.
I went back on their site, and found info about one of the girls. By searching on the web I found a disgusting other message board where, take a breath, guys post comments on the girls they ''tried''...

Iewwwwww x 100

PLEASE please do report that site! That is a huge violation of privacy. Guys are honestly such a*holes. Jeez, if I was a girl that someone talked about on there I would definetly pursue legal options.

While I agree that's appalling, is it illegal for men to do that? I don't think it is, the way I understand law.

I think you need to pick your battles wisely with this site.

They're having the same problem w/ Craigslist.org here in the States. People are soliciting sex and disguising it as "friendly encounters/dates" I mean there's actually a category called "just for fun/no strings attached" where people can list a person for who they are and what they want. They're especially cracking down on it here in Southern California, they have a huge human trafficking problem from Mexico. Young girls are pretty much being sold on the internet via MySpace and Craigslist.org it's lame.

You didn't do anything wrong. You were a concerned citizen and you were affected because they contacted you, so I think you absolutely made the right decision. I hope that it all works out, I think those sites are disgusting.

There are lots of escort sites in the US, not just craig's list. People just use craigslist to post their solicitations because it's free to post. A lot of other sites usually require a monthly fee of a few hundred dollars to post an ad.

And yeh, escorts are legal, assuming it's just a date, and whatever happens on the date, happens. But thats a fine line when it comes to legality.
