Dramatic mascara

What's the best mascara for dramatic, evening looks? I don't care if it's waterproof or if it's hi-end or low-end (I've got birthday money to splurge ;D). I've got medium-length but thick lashes, but they're straight as pins because I'm Chinese. I use an eyelash curler, though, so the mascara I'm looking for doesn't have to curl.

I love the brush on that, but I found the actual mascara quite flaky - it dried out very quickly, not sure if I got a bad one as everyone else seems to love the formulation.
I like YSL mascaras for drama as well.
