drugstore mascaras vs. high end mascaras

Okay, I'm not real familiar with different types of mascaras and as of right now, I'm not too picky with it. But I would like to know, is there a noticeable difference between drugstore mascaras and high end mascaras? Like the quality and whatnot? Like with eyeshadows, I can tell because the ones at drugstores usually have little pigment with little colour payoff and come out sheer and or chalky. What about mascaras? Thanks a lot!

and while we're on this topic, do any of you notice a difference between the drugstore lipstick, foundation, lip glosses, and lip sticks as well? You don't have to answer these if you don't want to; I'm aiming for the mascara question.

The endless "perfect" mascara quest!!! :)

I have found some wonderful mascara both at drugstores and at higher end stores. I think that mascara is one beauty product that has so many formulations that you can find one that fits your needs at either store. A lot of times drug store cosmetics and beauty aid brands get government patents first so sometimes they have the latest technology on new cosmetics and beauty products. I really think that as far as mascara goes that all brands are pretty well tested for eye safety so the quality is pretty equal. You might notice a difference in how it lengtens, seperates, thickens, clumps, etc. Everyone likes something different and you should experiment with what works for your mascara needs.

Personally I love Clinique, CHANEL, and Max Factor mascaras but it has taken me many tubes of mascara to figure out what I like the best!!

I do agree with what you said about some drug store eye shadow brands not being pigmented enough. I think that has to do with the quality of the ingredients (all eye safe of course) and cost. I really believe that you get what you pay for with certain types of make up and eye shadow is one of them. I HAVE found lots of eye shadows from drugstores that I love! BUT I have also found a lot that look wonderful in the layers of packaging and then I try them on at home and they go on to sheer or look powdery and afwul.

I could go on and on but hopefully this was some what helpful!

It is always fun to just try stuff out and see how you like it.

Plus all the wonderful ladies here usually rate products that they love or dislike so that is helpful!

unfortunately it's all trial and error...L'oreal Voluminous is great as far as d/s mascaras go, as is Max Factor LP.
I also love Lancome Hypnose, and i can't see a difference between it and my d/s mascaras.
I've tried other L'Oreal mascaras like Lash Architect, etc and hated them.

Yep that's pretty much it. There's good stuff at the drugstore and high end, the major difference is price. Personally, I don't think it's worth it to spend so much money on a super $$$$ mascara because in the end, they ALL clump up. That's just normal for mascara. Plus, you should replace mascara pretty frequently because of contamination and germ issues, so I'd rather get a cheap one that's good than an expensive one that I would feel wasteful about tossing out.

I like L'Oreal Voluminous waterproof, and Cover Girl Lash Exact.

I've tried a few highend mascaras, but I always end up going back to my trusted Loreal Voluminous.

The highend mascaras I've tried are the Benefit one (Bad Gal??) and DiorShow. The benefit one sucked and while I love the DiorShow, loreal works just as well and is less expensive. I'd rather spend less on mascara so I can spend more on eyeshadow

I buy cheaper mascara...I think you can find alot of great stuff and drugstores when it comes to that...I would rather save the money for other products that you can't get at drugstores.

most people seem to find drugstore to be better (try lash perfection by max factor) plus at walmart you can by mascara for like $4 so you can try a few!

I agree with CoachKitten, up until this point it has also taken me alot of trying before i found the right mascara for me. I'm INLOVE with Maxfactors masterpeice mascara, its the best i've ever tried and that even comes before my MAC Fibre rich lash which i was really disapointed with..

Mac Zoomlash is me personal favorite.
and for only ten bucks...You'd think it's be more expensive..right?

The only problem I have with Mac Mascaras are the cheap application wands...

As far as drugstore brand mascaras go, I think maybelline has the best mascaras -- I really like Sky High curves, but nothing can steer me away from my beloved DiorShow

I got a sample of lancome at the drugstore once.. I hated it so much. made my lashes stiff and a lot of my eyelashes fell off. Plus it flaked like crazy. Not worth 30$ cdn thats for sure.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I stick to drugstore mascaras, since you got to trow them away after 3 months anyway, whats the use to pay a lot of money for them.

Personally I like maybeline mascaras the best. My all time favorite is Full & Soft. Makes my eyelashes look better but still natural, doesnt flake, doesnt run, doesnt smudge and my eyelashes are still soft and flexible. Oh and I use the regular one, not waterproof... and even if it rained, it didnt leak all over the place.

Other then full and soft, I tried skyhigh curves, No flakes, realy lenghts your eyelashes. It was 2 or 3 years ago, but I far as I remember, I realy enjoyed this mascara.

Great lash, some people love it, some people hate it. I tried it 6 years ago and I hated it. I tryed the clear one recently for my eye brows and I liked it. I dunno... I'll stick with full and soft for now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Any Cover Girl I tried flakes horribly. The new Lash Exact clumps and flakes like crazy. The product in the tube was fine, then got all clumpy about 3 weeks later.... Will not repurchase.
The proffesional one in the blue tube, I had the same problem.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

and l'oréal... I just hate that mascara... will save you my rants about it

ive tried loads of different mascaras and i have to say the best ive tried is diorshow and i wouldnt go back to another type after trying this, although lancome l'extreme came a close second.

the best drugstore mascaras ive tried are probably great lash and one from boots no.7.

the worst was rimmel extreme (the one with the brush). horrible, clumpy, just nasty. ugh!

I use only drugstore mascaras - though I've been tempted to buy a full size of either Clinique High Impact or Lancome Hypnose after trying the GWP sizes. Maybelline Full & Soft waterproof remains my perennial favorite though, it is truly fabulous. I have never seen a clump with this mascara. I am really good about pitching it after 3 months though.
