i live in the san francisco bay area and it has been cold. my hands are dry, flaky and itchy. can anyone recommend me a good lotion that will hydrate it and keep it from getting dry and itchy in this cold weather. i prefer drugstore brands.

Udder Balm. It's cheap and utterly waterproof. Drugstores do carry it in the lotiion aisle (no need to run to Farm'n'Feed), its not glam, but nothing works better!

Mine were exactly the same until I used some of my mom's "look ma, new hands," from True Blue Spa. You can buy it at Bath & Body Works...seriously some good stuff!

Yeah this is a good one. It's called Norwegian Formula I think?

Gold Bond lotion is another drugstore brand that's fairly effective. If you don't like silicones, however, you won't like this. It'll last through one hand washing, but after a second handwashing you'll need to reapply

the only lotion that keeps my hand from getting dry is Johnson&Johnson hand cream, and it smells like babies!

This is my all time favorite for my hands in the winter and it is the almond milk hand cream by Burt's Bees. It comes in a glass jar so I use this right before I go to bed and it does wonders. I use Burt's Bees Shea Butter Hand Repair Creme during the day because the tube fits into my purse.

Both items can be bought at a CVS pharmacy or at Target

buy a good emollient handcream, exfoliate your hands with a gentle scrub, and when still wet slather them with the cream, rinse and pat dry, then follow with more cream. my manicurist friend taught me this tip and nothing works better.
oh, & avoid washing them with harsh handwashes and always wear gloves if it's cold!
