Dry lips

Hi,
I really like wearing lipsticks and lipglosses but I find that it always dry my lips out and leave a white line at the opening of my mouth after a few hours. It's really annoying and I have to look at my lips every hours to see if it's there so I can peel it off. =/ I always exfoliate my lips before I apply anything and I tried applying lipbalm and lip primer before I apply lipstick or lipgloss but it doesn't really help, its only nice during the first one or two hours.
Any recommendations?:/

I have heard this before but I think it might only be happening with really light colors.. is this your case?

How often do you exfoliate your lips? Is it possible to do it too much?

The mayoclinic offers these reasons for chapped lips:

  • Exposure to wind, sun, or cold, dry air
  • Breathing with an open mouth
  • Licking your lips
  • Dehydration
  • Contact with irritants or allergens in cosmetics or skin-care products
Does this happen with all brands or just a particular brand?

It happen will all the colors I use.
Hmm I mostly use MAC products :S
I exfoliate my lips at night and at the morning before I apply anything on my lips with a toothbrush.

That white gunk appears when I use MAC lipglasses or nude lipsticks. I use lipbalm religiously but It tends to happen if I've been running around and haven't had any moisture pass through my lips for a while.

It is so, SO annoying but has occured for years! I have my friends on 'lip watch' when we're out LOL

I had the same problem.

First try another toothpaste - maybe it's problem there.

Second - don't exfoliate so much (twice or three times a week is enough).

3. You have to nurish your lips - Nuxe Honey lip balsam works for me - it is really excellent product. I put it every night and my dry lips are history now.

The most importanat is not to use Vaseline or simply lip balm. Try something in can - usually they are more nourishing.

And avoid lipsticks for a week or two during curing your lips.

(maybe you're allergic on some ingridiens in lipstick?! It could happen)

Btw, after you bring your lips in order try lipstick with hydro-efect.

Hope thiss will be helpfull

Carmex doesn't work for me either. I actually use Bag Balm, best stuff ever! You can find it at pharmacies and specialty quilt shops. They actually use it for moisturizing cow udders, which sounds weird, I know! But, it is better than anything else I have tried. It also is an antiseptic so it never goes bad, I think my mom has had her tub for about 10 years or so. There is a small size and a biggie size. It also smells great, ever since I have started using it I have never had a problem with dry lips except when I forget to use it. I hope this helps you out!

rut roh, does that has a cortisone derivative? (which I am allergic to> I agree on some of the suggestions -- drinking more water, and exfoliating less. Three times a week is sufficient to keep lips free of flakes and dead skin. And a good balm is important!

Try using a colored lip balm for a few days and see what happens
