Essential Colors For A Beginner

Because of this forum I have become obsessed with MAC! I fell in love with the FOTD forum and all the wonderful looks the girls on here create. So as someone who is new to MAC, what eyeshadows do you think I should pick up right away? Which ones are perfect for everyday where? Which ones will bring out my eyes best?

I have blue, sometimes green eyes and fairly light skin. (You can go to www.myspace.com/truett85 for a pic).

Thanks so much!

What kind of looks do you go for? And what colors do you really like and what colors do you hate? How many are you thinking of buying?

I wear a lot of browns, but I was thinking that gold would really make my eyes stand out. I love to wear any color though! I tend to keep to day looks because I work at a bank so I tend to be a tad conservative. So usually I'll put a neutral color all over the lid and add a pop of color in the outer V and the crease.

Very cute pic.
I'd start by picking up coppering and amber lights. They'll work well with the browns you've already got, and both will really draw out your blue eyes. If you use a light hand it's bank-suitable... though what you really want to invest in are good brushes... that's how this group gets their makeup really great. There are some good threads on quality brushes and core brushes you should start with.

sketch, shroom, amberlights, soft brown, rose blanc, beautyburst (if you can find it), smut, antiqued, mulch, woodwinked, coppering...

my absolute favorite is tempting... it's a really nice golden brown that has sparkle in it, and ive found that it's really easy to blend it with all the other sparkly mac shadows. vanilla is also a must for a brow high lighter or if you're fair skinned you can use it as an all over. if you like browns that are matte, then try cork. it's really easy to wear and it's very neutral. =D

Thanks everyone!

So far the shadows I have are: Honey Lust, Mulch, Idol Eyes, and Mancatcher. I also have pigments in Apricot Pink and Provence.

Are the quads avalible to everyone? I haven't seen them online or at the counters.

quads are usually available when a collection comes out. you can make your own quad by going to the MAC freestanding or pro store and purchasing the empty 4-pan palette for $3.50 and purchase 4 eyeshadow refill pan for $10.50 ea. to fill your quad palette. or you can purchase 4 eyeshadows pot for $14 ea and depot them to put in the quad. its best if you purchase the refill pan since it will save you money and time in depotting the shadows out of their pot.
