Expiration dates on makeup products? Help

Hi

I was wondering if any of you knew about makeup products and their expiration dates. How long will an unopened, unused powder compact last? I am planning on stocking up on a LE powder from MAC, and want to know if they'll last more than a year if it is unopened. Otherwise i'd be wasting my money...
