Eye Shadow Finishes

As a newbie, I 'm adding to my eye shadow collection so that I will have eye shadows for all ethnicities. I am also starting to buy the 15 eye shadow palette. I was told at the MAC store that I had too many frost and also that velvet or satin finishes worked better in the crease. So I need some advice from MA experts:
(1) What finishes should I use or not use together?
(2) What other colors should I add to my collection for all ethnicities?
Thanks! - Hope to be a MAC MA one day....

Here is the list of all the eye shadows and the recent ones added:

carbon, corduroy, espresso, sketch, saddle, and folie all work beautifully in the crease/outer corner...these are actually are all good neutrals for a range of skin tones...i think you just have to get crazy and practice mixing and matching. you never know...
