The Shu Uemura is really great, but Kevyn Aucoin has a really good one too. I'd recommend either.

LOVE it! The best for my asian lashes - I've had mine for about 2 years and use it everyday (haven't even replaced the pad yet)

I love it and I just replaced the pad after about two years. I was never told anything about replacing it in a certain amount of time. I just came across my box while cleaning out stuff and decided I would go ahead and do it. Before I bought mine I also struggled over the cost and was it worth it, but I really think it is. I am lash challenged and it makes them look longer and prettier.

The Shiseido eyelash curler is pretty good too

I read that the Shu Uemura eyelash curler works best for bigger eyes (or for double eyelids) and the Shiseido for asian single eyelid eyes....

I have bought many eyelash curlers from drugstores and they all just give me the gross 90-degree angle lashes...instead of just curling them, they usually just crimp them.

When I was deciding on a high-end, I chose Shiseido and I absolutely love it. It costs $16.50, which is a little steep, but OH SO WORTH IT. I find that Shiseido fits my Asian eye type better and give my lashes a beautiful, natural curl that lasts ALL day...with or without mascara. I love it!

I'm pretty sure the metal they use is cheaper ( I've broken many many drug store curlers on accident but while doing similar things I haven't messed up my Shu) as well as it being bigger which helps a LOT, gets all my lashes! The pad design is also differently shaped than drugstore, which yes, does make a huge difference! Also, since the pad is thicker as well, it takes less pressure/work to get a good lasting curl. With drugstore curlers, I get a more 'bent' 90 degreeish angle, and have to work harder and 'walk' it more to smooth it out. It takes me like 3 crimps with the Shu. It's good quality so it lasts. I used to waste so much money on replacing cheaper ones, I've never replaced my shu except for the pads (soon though!).

Of course, I agree that it's a little on the expensive side for a curler, but considering how much people spend on brushes and other things, it makes sense to me since I'm making an investment. That, and I am a lash fanatic, so anything that gives me great lashes is worth it to me

I agree the cheap ones and free ones I have received through gifts with purchase from Lancome and Clinique just give the bent, crimp look. Besides the look of a nice curl I think it is more gentle on your lashes so your not pulling some out and God knows I can't afford to lose amymore lashes than what happens naturally. I've used mine for well over two years now so the $17 or so I paid for it is really not much considering I use it almost daily. Like someone else said you invest in good brushes so do the same for your lashes, they will thank you and you'll wonder why you waited so long to get it.

I have used several d/s type curlers as well as the Shu and the Shiseido. I definitely prefer the Shiseido... but the Shu is ok too.

I don't have Asian eyes, but mine are large and I have long lashes that go allover the place if not curled properly.

D/s type curlers just wouldn't catch them all and I ended up with only a few of the lashes in the middle of my eye crimped, instead of curled.

I bought several "precision" or "corner" curlers just to get a half way decent curl.... but that was soooooooooo time consuming and I often poked myself in the eye with them.

The Shu and the Shiseido were the first curlers that worked for me. (I ended up swapping the Shu, since the Shiseido worked just a bit better for me.) From the first try, they actually CURLED ALL of my lashes, from inner to outer corner. I also only have to squeeze lightly without getting pinched.

The curl lasts for HOURS, even if I don't apply any mascara.

Long story short.... I love my Shiseido culer. It's definitely worth the $16. 2 replacement pads (which I change out every 6 months or so) are about $3-4 (depending on where you buy them....) but I wonder if d/s type pads may also work.... I'll try that out next time I replace.

I absolutely adore the Shu Uemura curler but I also love the Tarte curler, the way the Tarte curler is designed is much easier on my hands, I'm a young girl but I have some problems with arthritis from time to time and the Shu Uemura curler sometimes hurts. I've also heard good things about the Shiseido curler and that'll be my next one to try.
