Although I often get a lot of compliments on my makeup... I am a mere novice compared to most FOTD's I see around here.... I am having a nightmare with blending!! I don't know if it's the colors I choose, I don't know if it's the brushes I use...I don't know if it's my technique... it just NEVER looks right. It seems like I blend all the e/s off, or I don't blend enough... etc etc. Any advice??? I need some major help in this area!!! Please let me know any good ideas or even tutorials!!! Thanks so much!!

I'm right there with you...I just put way too much then blend the heck out of it to the point it is how I wanted it to look in the first place....So my technique sucks big time

I use mac everything for the most part. Painterly pp for a base, mac shadows and bare escentuals brush that is similar to the 224 or a bare escentuals eyeshadow buffing brush, I think it's me not my products lol

Yeah maybe.

Well, i would say DONT overblend, when i do my eyeshadows, you can see there is a different between my lid and crease, but it isnt a harsh line.
IE:
if your blending a tan color on your lid ad a brown color in your crease, pick up a little of the brown color as you blend out your crease, then if the lid color needs a little extra color, you can blend it onto the lid.

practice with browns. this way, it will look "muddy" either way lol. \

Also, practice blending on the back of your hand, use a really light touch.
i used to blend really hard, and would blend the colors right off lol

ok great! I think I am blending too hard then..usually the problem I am having is between the highlight color and my crease,,,I could possibly be bringing the color up too high into my highlight? I wish I was home and I could add a pic! Thanks for your suggestions, the hand practice is a great idea!... I think I need to just choose more forgiving colors and get the technique down.

Do you do your highlight or crease first?

I find it easier if i do my highlight first SOMETIMES then the crease, helps blend it alittle.

ORRRR if i do the crease first, i just bring the highlight color down and do a VERY LIGHT windhshield wiper motion where the 2 colors meet.

I haven't had any luck blending with the 224. The only brush I've had work for me is the 217 when it comes to blending.

It also depends on the eyeshadow finishes. For me, it's easier to blend veluxe pearl eyeshadows than mattes. I don't find matte's easy to do at all. This is just how I do mine, but it works for me. I put the crease color in the very crease, so if my eyes are open you can't really see it. I use the 217 to blend the edges up. It takes a bit, but I don't have harsh lines, just a gradual fade. I'd recommend putting on the highlight before you blend. I use a big fluffy brush, but I have a lot more lid space than most people.

I hope this helps! If it doesn't make sense, let me know, and I can (try to) do a pic tuturial for you.

I do the crease, then highlight, I'll try to reverse the oder and see how that works too!

ok that makes sense. I have a lot of lid space too...apparently more than I know what to do with! haha! I get what you mean when your eye is open you cant see the crease color and then blend up, great tip. I think I'm puting on too much above the actutal crease to begin with. I think your right about the different finishes too.... mattes are my nemisis but one of my favorites. I thought I was gonna have to go buy the actual 224 mac and not a dup but you have given me hope maybe that's not the brush for me! haha! Thanks so much...if I don't get it down I may take u up on a tutorial!!

This is what I do as well. I place the color and then blend it upwards towards my browbone. Works for me!

LOL. I have too little lid space to work with as well. So it's a pain for me when it comes to blending. I'm still learning how to blend properly, but I'm getting there. At least the bf says that my eye makeup looks better now.

I usually use the 217. It gives me more control than the 224. The 224 just makes the colors transfer to all over my lid and everything will look like 1 single color. Haha...
I'll do crease first, then apply hightlight, then blend the area where those 2 meet. if that makes any sense...

Do highlight color with 242 or similar brush first
Do tearduct second with edge of 242 or similar brush
Apply lid color with 239 or similar brush
Apply crease color with 217 or similar brush

take a soft fluffy brush and place it on the lines between the colors and lightly buff. (like the mac 224 or 217

If you do the highlight first and bring it down slightly into your crease, and then add the crease color on top of it, it helps to automatically blend.

Good luck

I have found that blending is easier if i blend as i go almost. Before i used to almost paint the colours on to the lid then try and blend them all together, now if i am putting on a crease colour, i will put on lid and highlight then i add the crease colour slowly, building it up and blending it as i go, this way i don't end up with the muddy mix of colours i used to get.

Are you blending with a "dry" brush? I find it really helps to add a little more colour to the blending brush before I blend. Since your brush is obviously going to pick up some eyeshadow when blending, you can sort of replace it by starting off with a little eyeshadow on the brush in the first place.
