Faulty eyeshadow??

A year or so back I bought the eyeshadow Idol Eyes. I was really dissapointed when I used it b/c it would not show up on me at all. Usually I have no problems w/ Lustres. Its like only a tiny amount of silvery glitter would show up when I put it on no matter how much I piled on. It wouldnt even pile up on my brush!! So, I sold it to my younger sister for $5! Lol. But I was browsing around on Spektra & I noticed that it got really good reviews. I dont know how they could love it so much when it didnt work on me! Maybe it was a faulty eyeshadow. Has anyone else had this problem (not just w/ this shadow)???

Did you ever wear anything underneath it? I know for myself e/s that I thought didn't show up on me have usually been due to my complete lack of skill!

However, having said that, everyone loves Seedy Pearl but I maintain that my one in my Tease Me... Quad isn't as good quality as the single. So either you got a 'bad' one, or it needs to be experimented with a little more?

I had the same problem! No matter what base I used, Idol Eyes would not show up and would not stay put. My Idol Eyes ended up shattering into pieces. It's the only MAC product that I have been disappointed in!

Did you use a base? Sometimes even colored base such as paint or shadesticks will help bring out the colors more vibrantly but even neutral base will help.

It's not necessarily faulty eyeshadow. Some shadows don't come out on some people, simple as that. I heard a lot of people complaining about idol eyes and vex.

i have no clue about idol eyes cuz i dont own it, but i've seen it at the store and swatched it on my hand... it came out light but i did see color. so maybe it was faulty. did u try a base too... maybe it just wouldnt stick. i notice that with ALL lustres i need to use a base because if not they completly flake!

Mine shows up just fine on me (It shows up silvery/lilac on me), but I'm pretty fair (NC20) and I always always use shadow base. And it can't be any shadow base, if it's a very sparkly shadow you want you gotta use a base with a shimmer to it for it to really show well. Alot of times as an MA, I find that people don't use the right base or they brush the shadow on so lightly. I know for the company I work for, our shadows are not very pigmented, you really have to dig in them and press hard and always wear a base for them to show as they look in the pan, otherwise it's a very sheer wash of color. Now, if that's what they are going for, fine but to really get a vibrant color sometimes scraping them with the brush works best. And if I just used a flat base like concealer on the shimmery shades, sometimes the sparkle doesn't stick.

Idol Eyes works well with me, what brushes are you using? It could also be your skin tone or the base (or lack there of) being used.

Idol Eyes is just a total crap e/s imo. Worst that MAC has ever made. Its one of the older style lustres which all have a questionable texture, yet even for them it manages to be extra bad.

Well I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who had issues w/ it! As for using a base, I ALWAYS use either a paint or CCB as a base. Otherwise eyeshadows dont stay put. I don't know if it was my skin tone. I'm an NC35. But someone mentioned that they noticed a diference between a shadow in a pallette and individual. So perhaps I just got a bad batch. Thanx guys!!!!

It's funny how people tend to love or hate the lustres. Idol eyes is one of the few lustres I like, actually.

i swapped mine away. it looked like crap regardless of base. i used UDPP, paints, shadesticks, i tried it wet...nothing. teeny bit of silver glitter that would end up on my cheeks. and i like lustres.

Idol Eyes is the worst eyeshadow I have ever used. It is worse than the worst drugstore eyeshadow I've encountered. I HATE it. It will be the first eyeshadow I depot for practice because other than the money (a pricey $30AUD), I really don't care if it smashes to a million pieces heh.

Idol eyes is appalling. It was one of the first Mac shadows I ever encountered but thank god I was introduced to veluxe pearls not long afterwards or I would be a Mac hater based entirely on my passionate dislike for this shadow. It has put me off the lustre finish completely. Try as I might it never looked right on me (even with a base) and that's when I could even get it to show up! Even when it did show up it was the vilest colour - because all the pretty bits ended up on my cheeks. BLERGH!

Idol Eyes is terrible. IMO, it's one of the 'bad' Lustres, like Honesty as well-- they're too hard in texture to work with. I like the other Lustres like Retrospeck and Tempting, they apply much more smoothly. With Idol Eyes, all I get is glitter *everywhere* and weird looking uneven colour.

Today a friend of mine (Catherine^ - hi!) bought a lustre from the Lingerie collection - Taupeless i think it was? Anyway, the texture of it was lovely...I have no idea what's going on with Idol Eyes. Just thinking about it makes me angry haha!

Yeah, I bought Taupeless and it's great. And i goofed in my earlier post: I said Idol Eyes was going to be promoted w/ Culturebloom, but it's actually Lingerie. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I just feel bad for the people who unknowingly buy it.

When I bought Idol Eyes it was grouped with the purple toned eyeshadows at my MAC counter. When I shopped with Kat the other day (hehe Hi Kat!) I noticed it was grouped with the silvers. My Idol Eyes looked DISTINCTLY different to the one that they had grouped with the silvers. I wonder why the two could look SO different!?!?! It wasn't just the lights either because I bought Idol Eyes to pair with another purple shadow. Weird.
