Flip-Top vs. Screw Top Eyeshadow

Hey!!!!

Ok I have a question! I thought MAC eyeshadows could only be bought with the flip top because that is the only way I've ever seen them besides the palettes. I was on ebay.com the other day looking at Wishful from the Ornamentalism collection and they had the flip top and screw top. I've never seen the screw top so i thought it was fake or something!!! Could someone please clarify this for me and let me know the different ways they sell the eyeshadows! Just the other day i found out you can buy the eyeshadow by the pan only instead of the flip-top and I heard it's a few bucks cheaper? Is this true?

*learning so much from this site! LOL*

the older style shadows (i.e when MAC first came around) had a screw top. the newer design is the flip top =)

I might be wrong but I would think that if they have wishful as screw top then it might be fake cause wishful just came out with ornamentalism.

yeah the ooooold mac shadows were screw top, and twice the amount of product. My grandma gave me her carbon and its a screw top. It's HUGE. It's 3g, current mac eyeshadows are 1.5g i believe. wishful should not be in screw top because they stopped doing screw top quite some time ago if I'm not mistaken.

I was thinking the same thing!

I have Phase in a screw top - my only one, gotten from a lovely swapper right here

It's probably real but pretty old [= I wouldn't use something on my eyes that's like 5 years old even though unused shadows probably don't "go bad", but still].

It's probably fake but someone could have put it in an old screw top container......

Screw tops came in two sizes - 1.5g and 3g - I have quite a few examples of both. When M·A·C changed to flip top they continued with the 3g size for a short while. I have a couple of 3g flip tops.

I have older MAC shadow and other brands that are still good and dont bother my eyes, if I threw out all my stuff after 5 yrs I'd have barely anything!

Powder doesnt go bad unless its mixed with something, I have an old Lancoome e/s duo that I was 15 yrs ago and its still good.

Yeah, I would say those 2 are fakes...they are to recent of colors to be in screw top pots. MAC doesn't not make e/s in screw top pots any longer. Not in years. I do have a few and treasure them. And yep, MAC does sell e/s in pan form so you can slip them straight into your palette! It's cheaper, yes, but then you have nothing to depot to get a free lippie!

I have Gesso in a screwtop pot from back in the day... can someone tell me what year MAC switched to the flip-top? I just want to date my shadow... you know, like a fine wine...

Look for the manufacturing code underneath (i.e. A63, etc) and that'll give you an idea of how old your e/s is.

if you do the math, the money you save on the e/s refills themselves is more than the cost of a lipstick, but then you gotta factor in the palette to put them in. for those (like me) who aren't into lipstick and such going with the refills is very much worth it!
