Sorry for the 'I glow in the dark' pic! I'm SSSOOOO white! I don't know why...

Pretty!

You are white in the photo because Studio Fix produces "flashback" due to its high titanium dioxide content. It is not a professional grade foundation.

MAC foundations...

The only MAC foundations that are suitable for photography are MAC Face & Body and *borderline* Studia Tech. I don't like how Studio Tech photographs, but other people I know use it...

In the 2 others pics I don't look white, and its with Studio Fix. So its not the foundation, its the FLASH! On the 2 good pics, its with natural light, without flash. And on the ghost's pic, its with a flash, with artificial light.

Thx!

Yes it is the flash.... But the the Studio Fix is causing the "whiteface" effect. The flash reflects off the titatium dioxide in the Studio Fix... Professional foundations photograph their true color WITH (and without) the flash.

"19. What makeup photographs well? My face always looks "white" in pictures!

Most regular makeup is not appropriate for photography, and does not photograph "true."

Regular makeup gets its opacity from Titanium Dioxide and pigment. In person it looks great, but hit it with a flash and suddenly it looks like the foundation is ten shades too light! That is is titanium dioxide reflecting.

Professional makeups rely on pigment, not titanium dioxide for opacity and coverage. They still contain titanium dioxide though! So unfortunately there is no way to read ingredients and tell what is safe and what is not. If an artist wants to try a new makeup, usually they test it first to see how it photographs. Some brands that I know photograph true are MAC Face and Body, Cinema Secrets, RCMA, Armani LSF, Shu Uemura Nobaru, NARS Balanced, ... I like powders by Cinema Secrets, Shu Uemura, and Becca."

Titanium dioxide is mentioned above, but zinc oxide also behaves the same way...

Hope this helps... If you have a question about a particular foundation, I might be able to help (I have "tested" tons), but unfortunately it is a little bit of guesswork if you are looking for a regular brand (as opposed to professional) that photographs "true".

Wow, thanks so much for this information gte082r! This stuff is great to know.

PrettyKitty, this is a gorgeous look, but then again, so are all of your posts. I love how you do makeup, very versatile.
