you do not HAVE TO use a brush for any foundation. you can use sponges instead, or your fingers for liquids.

What's your skin type?
what kind of finish do you like? (matte, semi-matte, dewy)
What's your preferred formula? (fluid, powder, cream (tube), cream to powder compact)
What kind of coverage are you looking for?
How much is your budget?
What brands do you prefer?

As far as foundations go, I use MAC studio fix fluid in NW15, I find it doesn't dry out my skin as much as a loose or pressed powder foundation does, and it's good for dry or acne prone skin.

As far as application goes, I highly suggest not using a sponge... they carry a ton of bacteria in them, it's better to use a brush or something that you can clean and keep sanitized. Use your fingers if you have too, but not a sponge, it will keep your skin much healthier and control breakouts =)

I have heard good things about MAC's pressed powder foundations, but have never tried them myself.

I very much agree, and to add to the sponge thing: you end up wasting your foundation because it absorbs more than needed into the sponge.

Yea I agree too, its a waste of foundation, and I dont want to apply it with my finger because the application wont be so great, so I am looking for foundation that I wont need to buy a brush for, because arent foundation brushes like 50-60

Well even more then a waste of foundation, those sponges have a ton of germs, and it's so bad for your face.

The brush I bought was 50, but I'm sure you can find cheaper ones if you get one that isn't from MAC.

Not every place is as expensive.
You can also go to an art store and buy a brush thats just the same as a professional makeup brush for less money.

if you have dry skin, i'd suggest using a moisturizer before anything else. i've used mac studio fix fluid for quite a while now and it gives amazing coverage. i have really oily skin though, so i've switched now to mac studio fix foundation which also gives amazing coverage and is really lightweight. and if you're looking for a cheap, decent quality brush, hit up a target if you have them in your area and check out sonia kashuk's brushes.

try Sonia Kashuk's (@ target) foundation brush - it's reeeeeeally nice and a lot cheaper than MAC. i also heard that ELF's foundation brush (also @ target, some states also have them in k-mart and albertson's) is decent and it's only $1.00

Matte means that it has no shine whatsoever, it gives a polished effect but it's less natural. Semi matte, means that it's mostly not reflective, but has a considerate glow. What I mean by dewy is that it possesses an almost shimmery nature and glows like your face is moist from dew. Not oily greasy, just dewy, glowing.

Sheer-full coverage? Something that you can build from sheer to full?

Honestly, if you're looking for a good full coverage foundation, try Make Up Forever's Mat-Velvet +, it's beautiful, photographs very well and you can build the amount of coverage you'd like, although to make it sheer, you should thin it down with some moisturizer or primer.

Or you can try Dior's spray mist foundation, it's gorgeous and with a beautiful finish.

Both have a powdery finish and loose/pressed powder optional.
