Hi Everybody!

I'm in a bit of a foundation slump lately. I have acne-prone skin which somehow manages to BOTH oily and dry at the same time! It seems that most foundations either accentuate my flakes [i exfoliate but to no avail] or make me super oily looking like a bacon fat V.v"

So far, I've already tried the following foundations:

Almay Clear Complexion_blotches throughout the day
Revlon Colour Stay _ smells pungent of alcohol
Maybelline Pure_can't hold up to the warmer weather
Maybelline Dream matteMousse_ have yet to be fully tested but i'm afraid it will cause breakouts
Maybelline PurStay Powder Foundation_not enough coverage
Physicians Formula Mineral-wear loose powder_ makes me super flaky
Rimmel Cool Mousse_ made my face seem too flat and accentuated flakes and caused some blemishes
Rimmel Renew and Lift(?)_ nice finish but made me too oily
Clinique Clarifying makeup liquid_waaaaaaay to pink

Would it be worth it to venture into the higher brands like DIOR, Prescriptives, Lancome etc?

I would really like a foundation that balances my combo
skin [not make it too oily, not too flaky], does not cause breakouts [even if i wear it consistently] and gives me a satin/matte finish.

i highly highly highly recommend mineral makeup!

it takes a bit to find your shade...but it's well worth it. and the best part is that mineral makeup is anti bacterial, so if anything, it may help with your acne.

my favorite is Everyday Minerals. they have a free trial kit (you pay shipping) and if you have trouble finding a shade, call their CS, they're really helpful. also, when choosing foundation colors on the site, go more by the description and not the pictures.

and be sure to pick up their long handled kabuki -- the best $10 you'll ever spend!

good luck!

i have oily skin and I use Bare Naturale i think by Loreal out of all the mneral stuff I have used I like this one best I have used ID Bare Mineral s hate it on my oily skin feels like oil slick in instants it seems. Bare Naturale does end up getting oily but I retouch and it feels like new...in my venture with finding the perfect foundation im with you still looking. Do remember to use moisturizer even with the oily skin problem I really am loving Ambi right now! Hope I helped you in a way ...remember if you do try Bare Naturale the best price is at walmart then you may want to check out Target or Walgreens they sometimes are on sale..and you can always return it if you get the wrong shade.

Try Everyday Minerals the key with that foundation is to use a good brush and if you dont like the powdery look you can spritz your foundation brush a bit and buff your entire face with it...flawless imo.

Foundation wise, I agree mineral foundation would be a wise choice. check out macs mineralize and if it doesnt give u full enough coverage, you can add more by using studio fix powder which has silica to absorb oil.
or you can try mac select cos its moisturising but gives a matt finish. studio fix fluid might be a little too dry for you... and if u do apply powder, just apply a little and really buff into skin.

I can totally empathise with you... i had exactly the same issue!

The first step however, before foundation is to sort out the skin issues and Dermologica saved my (acne-prone) life! Try their precleanse oil (yes even for oily skin) as its an amazing deep cleanser, followed by Daily Microfoliant for flakes and their Active moist moisturiser... a price to pay but SOOO worth it.

once you have sorted it, any foundation will begin to sit better on it. E Lauders pore minimiser is a miracle too!

good luck

Try Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, it's awesome. You could use SK-II's Signs Transform which is amazing as well or Estée Lauder Double Wear Light.

you could try a mineral foundation.. also if your having problems with makeup staying on or having flakeyness/enlarged pores i would highly recommend a oil free foundation primer such as smashbox photofinish light (oil free version) .. its going to help keep your foundation on longer, smooth out fine lines and pores as well as it will seal in your skincare and keep out environmental damage to the skin.

I agree with the others on mineral foundation. It's the best thing for my normal but very acne-prone skin. I've been using Everyday Minerals for about 2 years now, and I love it!

I agree. You can have oil control added to your formula without making it go totally matte.

I was looking at Prescriptives too. Do you know if it costs MORE to get a "custom blend" foundation rather than get one that they already have pre-mix/pre-made? I was looking at their Virtually Fresh Foundation.

Every makeup I have ever used broke me out except Laura Mercier oil free-it was very thin and no shade was gold enough, and NARS oil free and also Fusion soft Focus which is a mineral foundation that adds little colour but really improved my skin so much I sometimes mix it in with NARS(it doesn't have any sparkle at all). Its miserabley hot and humid in Hawaii in the summer and any makeup that is perfume, greasy or has a lot of "stuff" in it gives me acne. I fell in love with Dior foundation but it breaks me out in a couple hours. Some people get flakes because their skin is oily-just like people with dandruff.

I second this one. I have the same skin type as you- it is very oliy in the t-zone and I get itchy red dry patches on my cheeks. I love mineral makeup on my skin, its the only thing that does not break me out. I use EM foundation in the original glo, they have several formulas and I found that the only formula that isn't too drying is that one. Everyday minerals also has a better color range then most mineral makeups (drugstore brands, bare essentials). Their sample kit is a great way to pick out your perfect color from their extensive selection. You have to try this brand.
I use their long handles kabuki every day, it is so soft and gives perfect coverage.
