Frustrations with schedules and people

OMG I have never been so annoyed by anyone more than I am with my university. Where do I even remotely begin?

Well let us start with the schedule. I had it all set up with one chem lab and one chem lecture. On the computer school system they will not allow you to
1) Take any course you do not have a prereq for
2) Take 2 labs of the same class (IE: Chem Lab 101 and Chem Lab 101 is not gonna happen)

First things first:
I get to chem Labs. How? I don't know. I fought like hell to try to get into a good profs chem class.

Then Finally I get in and I'm all excited and go home.

Next thing I know I print out my schedule I"m in the wrong biology class.

So I drive back over to the registrars office.

And lo and behold we work it out and she then says, " I have no idea what happened but how are you in Quantitative Physics?"

I dunno. So then we have to go around the entire damn campus to finally get that straightened out-but guess what? My Math class got dropped for the Physics so we tried to get out of the Physics and then we wound up with.............some kind of graduate chemistry course! WTH?

So two days of this torture. And finally I'm already off on the wrong foot with one of my profs-I tried to explain it to him he was like yeah whatever your still held responsible for this.

I don't care. I just want my damn classes in order.

*Grumble*

Yeah. I'm upset.

Honestly, (I am not trying to be harsh), get used to it. Stop freaking out because this is the kind of stuff that happens all the time in University. Furthermore, of course you can't register in a class you don't have a pre-req for; that wouldn't be fair to those who do have the pre-req and get bumped out because of someone who doesn't. The higher your year, the more seniority you have. I am fourth year, hence any course I want in my degree that I need to graduate, I have immediate seniority over those in years 1, 2 and 3. They will always get bumped out before me, regardless of when they registered. That's just how it works.

The bottom line is not to stress. Every faculty has a faculty advisor that is there to help you with stuff like this. God knows you pay for it, so make use of it. Glad to see you went to the reg. office and straightened things out.

Really, these are the last things you should be getting all bent out of shape about. Stress about grades and exams, not red tape that is easily solved.

Welcome, welcome, to the modern Universitay!!

Wattage, we've been friends way to long for me to think you're being harsh.

I just am baffled how in the hell I could get into those upper level courses that I 1) never signed up for and 2) dont even have the pre-reqs for.

GAH. I dunno. It's just one thing after an other I guess

I guess it's just because this is the first time at this school I've ever had a problem like this regarding registration. Eh oh well.

Any tips on how to destress and start funneling my energy to my studies is still very helpful! I've already got the schedule and the plan now it's just hoping the red tape and the reg. office doesnt pull crap on me at the end of the semester telling me I failed Quantum Physics when I was never in that class in the first place!

ughhhhh. i'm not going to be of much help here, other than to say i completely sympathize with you. my college is beyond ridiculous, at this point.

we have two major parking structures, both with numerous entrances and exits. yet, according to my school, it would be "easier" to block off all the entrances/exits except 1 per parking structure, so that thousands of cars would have to filter through one opening. this, of course, fucked up traffic beyond belief. i was stuck in complete, car-to-car gridlock for well over an hour, to the point where i turned off my engine, lit a cigarette, and sat there and talked on the phone. i missed my first class, and was late to my second. normally, it will take me 15 minutes to get to my school and parked. on the first day of school, yesterday, it took me over 2 hours to get completely parked and to my class. the rent-a-cop security at my school is apparently comprised of absolute morons on power trips because they get special security windbreakers. rawr.

getting classes, and then making sure they are, in fact, the classes you NEED, is just as difficult. my faculty advisor barely speaks enlish, no joke. i am petitioning to get a different one.

anyway, without adding my woes, just letting you know that most schools have their fair shares of stupidity, but i'm sorry you're going through all of this? it's so ridiculous how they expect us to learn when half the time, we are wasting or lives correcting THEIR mistakes! hope everything gets worked out for ya

I was always so amazed at the run around. I absolutely hated dealing with the registration process. It really seemed like no one was on the same page with the policies, so I developed The Rule of 3. Ask three people and the majority answer wins. Sometimes the rule of 3 became The Rule of 5, when the first 3 people I asked gave me 3 different answers.

I always thought, "Seriously, am I paying for this mess?"

Eventually you learn little tricks and shortcuts to speed up the process and help prevent mix ups. Hang in there, because all of your persistence is worth it when they hand you that diploma!
