Hawkeye

This is actually about a TV Show but it also has to do with War too. There is a point to this so before any mods- take it to entertainment

Before we go on I should say I don't want this to turn into an anti war thing. I mean we have enough of that crap as it is and someone can make a different post regarding that aspect.

But I was watching an episode of M*A*S*H (Moble Army Surgical Hospital) and the show is based on the Korean Conflict. Here is a weblink for you all to go around and see who I'm talking about etc.

So I find this absolutely hysterical
Hawkeye had worked 24 hours straight, he was exhausted so he decides to send a telegram to Pres. Truman with this note: Who started it? Love a very dissatisfied Customer.

Then he went looking for an answer as to WHY they were in a war. So he goes to find Frank and askes Frank-why are we here? What are we fighting over?

Frank explained that the North Koreans were communist and the US had a better way of life and really the North Koreans just wanted better toilets.

So Hawkeye decides he wants to end the war. He then goes and decorates the latrine with Toilet Paper and gets Radar to send a note to the North Koreans telling them he's sending over the 4077th Latrine to extend the olive branch and start the peace process. He then decides he should personally deliver it and while he's hooking up the latrine the General comes by and he has to use the bathroom and he gets into this latrine and Hawkeye then finishing up hooking the Latrine up to a van and starts driving it to North Korea.

Also during the show Hawkeye goes to a helicopter pilot and says- I don't want you to go up in the air anymore. You go up there with empty stretchers but you come back with them full. If you don't go up in the air then we won't have anyone else harmed.

I just found it hilarious. I know you all will think I'm nuts but I could only imagine....

Now this is where it ties into the deep thoughts. I just found it so funny how one mans explanation and thoughts really made sense in a sick way. It was sad but I often wonder after watching these episodes-especially this last one- if some of our guys in Iraq or Afghanistan or even during Vietnam or Desert Storm any of the wars began to think like Hawkeye. Especially the Medics. Working themselves so hard to heal. I try not to really put much stock into it but at the same time I often wonder what is like for the medics during war.

I mean even though it was funny watching it (Alan Alda who plays hawkeye is SO talented) at the same time its sort of showing what it is like.

What is it like with the medics over there? What do they think? Do they ever want so badly to help their fellow man or do they want peace so badly they would do something that even if it seems funny-to them it makes a lot of sense?

Medics-they fascinate me.

What do you all think?

(And again-please do not turn this into an anti war party- I think we all share the same sentiments about our dislike for war-just tell us what you think about the topic at hand).

that is funny. maybe they don't think what they're fighting for is right, but they do it anyway. and i'm sure they all have their own ideal solutions, stuff they think would work, but seems silly to us civilians. all we can do is watch and wonder what it is actually like out there...
