The biography channel is holding a poll called "So you think you can Vote" asking Canadians who they would vote for (if they could) in the upcoming American Election.

The poll hasn't closed yet but so far..

87% of Canadians would vote for Barack Obama
13% of Canadians would vote for John McCain

Bien Sur!! This isn't a surprise!

I certainly hope the great white north would vote for Obama! God knows i'd LOVE to have him as our PM, as oppose to Harper. Well, if we can;t have him, lets try and lure Clinton over. I will promise her baked goods.

Obama for me too. We were actually talking about this in the office yesterday and everybody favoured Obama. I would have been surprised if it were otherwise....

Yeah, about the last election
People are just plain stupid...
And after that, they complain
Did you notice how many reasons they give themselves not to vote?

It sounds like Canadians are eager to hear someone in their own country chanting those same campaign slogans - "change" and "hope". How about these: - "I believe" or "Yes, we can" ? From reading other countries blogs and newspapers, they are devouring all those words too.

Logically, that brings me to these questions. Why are they not as outspoken about their own politics in Canada? Why are they not taking a stand and using their voice within their country?

Maybe, I am way off base here. Is everything going really well in Canada, so there really is no need for any of those meanings that come through with campaign slogans as those mentioned?

A lot of Canadians are apathetic. It's like they don't want change or they are scared of it.
A lot of people don't vote because they say.. well what is my one vote going to do.. its not going to change anything.. while there are tens of thousand of people saying that. Or every time I vote no change really happens so why bother.
Does Canada need to have a mega crisis like the states to actually get people moving?

There are also a lot of stupid excuses.. I was watching the news just before the elections and a lot of the younger people were being asked if they would vote and they said no.. because they just don't know much about the parties running.
WTF is that? That is no one's fault but your own
educate yourself.

I think Canadians are sorta tired of voting. We've voted three times within the last three years, it's insane. Maybe that's why some ppl are whining and groaning.

Things are not perfect in Canada, but we do have a decent health care, educational and immigration system. Also critical point: the world doesn't have a negative view of Canada. There are areas we could improve on but I don't personally see the need for a "big change".

One last thing to add, as a whole the International Community is favouring Obama over McCain, not just Canada. And ppl talk about US politics coz it pretty much affects the whole world.

I don't even know if I answered your question btw, it's right after lunch and I feel sleepy :/

a lot of people simply don't have an interest in politics. & it's not like they were blaming someone else for their political ignorance. i do think it's unfortunate that such a small percentage of canadians voted in this past election, but do you really want those who don't know much about the parties to run out & vote blindly? you can't expect 100% of canadians to vote on a single day.

I think the reason that most Canadian's didn't vote is because it seemed like kind of a useless election - the outcome was pretty obvious. I'm pissed off that Harper called it though, what a waste of tax dollars. He should be held accountable for it.

On topic, Obama for sure! I think most people realize that Obama is way better for the world than McCain.

I think our elections lack the energy that american elections have. I mean, granted, the current president effed up big time, so theres a huge eagerness to have a big change, but really, this last election was called a month before hand. We had the same old parties and the same old leaders. Nothing new, nothing gained. That being said, i did vote. I tried to use my vote as wisly as possible. I offered lifts to people taht couldnt get to their polling stations, talked to my class mates about other candidates policies (and ofcourse bashed harper in the process. He's cutting funding for arts, and im in teh threatre industry... i dont have anything good to say about him)

Quebec might be calling a provincial election on Dec 8th. That scares the bejesus out of me. Im sorry, but i really hope no one votes NDP. Say what you want about the librals, they're the only ones that stand a chance against the bloc.

They did a recent poll in Europe of the same nature and the numbers were even much stronger in favor of Obama.
