getting eyeshadow to apply evenly

Hey you guys!
I've seen a bunch of your FOTDs and they are all really great. I'm kinda jealous though, because it looks like you get the eyeshadow to cover really well.
I have kind of dark eyelids so I use concealer on them or even the MAC Prep+Prime before I put on the shadow and even when I don't use them, I feel like my eyeshadow goes on really patchy and it I have trouble getting it to go on smoothly and evenly on the lid.
One of the brushes I have is a small, fluffy brush I got from Victoria's Secret a few years back, and I also have the MAC 252 and 224. Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong or a better brush?

From what I understand, Prep+Prime isn't all that great of a primer. I personally prefer Urban Decay Primer Potion and a lot of other girls like the Too Faced bases. I'd try switching primers first to see if that makes a difference.

I completely agree. I haven't heard anything good about Prep + Prime, and I know for me, a good eyeshadow base works much better than concealer or foundation. I just finished up a tube of UD PP and I really liked it. I've got a tube of the TF Shadow Insurance to try now, but really I think a good base makes all the difference. So do good brushes, but the 252 and 224 are good brushes so you seem to be covered.
