hey everyone
im going to the caribbean for 2 weeks with my boyfriend after easter and i wanted to get some nice new make up to use. itl be mainly for use in the evenings and for the summer when i get back.
im fairly new to make up and mainly use mac. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas of any nice blushes, bronzers, lipsticks, lipglasses etc (anything really) that u think would look nice on me. im nw15/20. i use studio fix fluid foundation and was also thinking about getting one of these three foundations for my hols, mineralize satinfinish, select tint or hyper real. i wanted to go for a nice glowy look. any ideas which one is the better of the foundations? alsooo should i buy the foundation a shade darker for when i get a tan? sorry about all the questions! im just getting a bit excited about going on holiday lol.
any ideas welcome!

I would start with the Prep & Prime SPF 50-- there is more sun where you are vacationing at, and thus you need to protect your precious skin IMHO!! I would also get Mineralize Satinfinish foundation. These run a tad bit darker than the other MAC foundations despite their same alphanumeric combinations, so you'll be safe getting one in your shade or one shade darker--that should be it. It is AWESOME for that glowy look. If you can get you hands on a MSF Natural Powder to lightly dust to 'set' your makeup, it sets without taking away the 'glow'.
Blush: You can use a bronzer for this. MAC Golden is a good classic bronzer with a slight shimmer. For more color, top with Sunbasque Blush.
Eyeshadows: Shroom, Vanilla, Mulch, Patina, and Cork are some good basics for a neutral eye. For more drama, add Carbon or Black Tied.
Lipliner: Creamstick Liners in Cream O'Spice, Gingerroot (neutrals)
Lipsticks: Gel, Viva Glam VI, and Plastique are some good ones to try
Lipglass: Clear, Prrr, Nymphette, Viva Glam VI, and C-Thru are must-haves!

Have fun on your vacation and HTH!!!

Because I am from the Caribbean , let me give you some tips. The weather is very humid. I don't know if you are going to the Bahamas, Jamaica, Cuba or Puerto Rico. But, in any case, wear make-up thats not too thick otherwise, within 20-30 minutes you'll look like you are melting. Keep your make-up fresh, almost as if you are going for the natural look. I mean yes you can wear your gloss, the eyeshadow and such...but make sure your foundation is oil free type.
pure makeup | Maybelline | Beauty & Spa | Walgreens

What I would recommend is maybellines Pure make-up since its 50% water and your face will show through. At night however, you can do your make-up with more intensity like you would normally do--but don't forget about the humidity. it might get windy depending where you are at, so don't forget to have a hair band in your purse just in case you are in the mood of picking up your hair (ponytail).

If you're going on vacation, I would advise a tinted moisturizer, mineralize satinfinish will probably melt with the heat and humidity. Have some blotting paper in your purse so you won't keep reapplying powder throughout the day.

If you definitely want a foundation, I'd go for a pressed powder one with long wear concealer like Make Up For Ever's Full Coverage concealer.

You've gotten some really great advice already. I just wanted to add get waterproof/budge proof makeup. Mascara (of course), smudge proof liners, fluidliners are great. Make sure you bring a lip balm with SPF. Sometimes we forget to protect the lips. For a pretty sparkly pink go with Wonderstruck, Nymphette or Oyster girl l/g, Lychee Luxe if you like peachy-pinks and if you want a hot pink, Pink Poodle.

I would bring a highlighter rather than a bronzer because you'll have an awesome looking tan already

but then again I am much darker than you so I'll let you decide on that one..anyway have loads of fun!!

I am from the Dominican Republic and I take a few trips down to the wonderful but forever hot island a couple of times a year and this is what is always in my makeup bag:

- I do not know what type skin you have (oily, combination, dry) but make sure to have an oil free moisturizer with SPF (do not put regular sunscreen on your face because of the heat all it will do is oil up your face and clog your pores). Cosmedicine has a great oil free SPF 20 moisturizer and is sold at Sephora and so does Laura Mercier.
- If you must use foundation use powder foundation it will help soak up the sweat
- have a bronzer (use it sparingly since you will be getting a tan but a bronzer will help even out the tan and give a glow to your tan)
- Fix+ ( a big must have, carry it in your purse your skin will thank you)
- lip balm with SPF (I usually carry tinted ones. I find lipstick to be to heavy in the sun)
- waterproof mascara
- blotting papers
- smudge proof liners
- I tend to use brighter eye shadows when I visit home. Especially after a tan to make the eyes pop. Just make sure to have a very good base and use powder eye shadows.

Hope this helps. Have a great vacation!!

men my bf went last year lol it was aMAZING you need very light makeup coz its absolutly scorching even on a night. i took my mineralize satinfinish and it didnt make me go oily [i put a loose powder on top] and used light coloured eyeshadows, a tad bit of liner, mascara ofcourse, bourjois chocolate bronzer, mac blush and different coloured lippies almost every night.
there isnt really much to do.. plus most people you see wont wear makeup.. i ALWAYS felt over dressed and people staring at me coz i got dolled up every night lol you really dont need to take much makeup you only need basics and take a few colours for the eyes.. and remember to take lip balm with SPF for during the day! have a good time

I would go with drugstore brands lol .....here is why ...while traveling ..its such a hassle for me at least to decide which makeup to bring ...packing all my little pretties to make sure they dont break ...figuring what I can and can't bring on my carry on... worrying that my bags will get lost ..and i will loose hundreds of dollars of my mac ! lol ...

so now I bring only a few high end pieces mostly just my two primers cuz i love them ..udpp and smashbox photofinish light ...and i got them in smaller travel sizes.. like one or two neutral shaodws ..one shimmery one to highlight ,one for lid, one for crease...a powder bronzer and a cream blush. I think you can prolly pack all those in your carry on with no worries ..im not sure about the cream blush though.

now for liquids ... glosses I bring a few covergirl wetslick fruit spritzers ..and maybe a loreal color juice gloss... I would stick to gloss and lip pencil ...you dont wanna be putting on a full face on vacation .. OH and get a lipbalm with some spf ! hehe

for face ... a tinted moisturizer ..i reccomend neutrogena healthy skin enhancer and it has spf too ..and the neutrogena mineral foundation that comes with the brush dispenser ..great for travel !

Neutrogena also has a lovely all over face color for cheeks, lips and eyes.

and most of the drugstore stuff is fairly cheap ..so I dont worry and stress about it if it gets lost ..or if security makes me chuck it away lol.. thankfully i have never had to throw anything away ..I was lectured though about my Rosebud salve lip tin ..apparently I wasn't supposed to have it in my purse ..but I think it depends on the screeners lol ..

i guess biggest advice is keep it minimal ..and don't bring a whole traincase ..chances are you wont even use it all ..or any on some days lol ... and Go with multi use products.

Have fun on your Vacation !

im dreading decided what im going to take and what im not going to take. i agree with u about taking drugstore brands, i get paranoid about my bag getting lost at airports at the best of times, let alone with £200 worth of make up in it lol.
security are a bit funny sometimes. im cabin crew and some days they let us take things through and other days they dont, it can be a bit frustrating.
i also bought sandy b lipstick the other day which is a coraly colour so im thinking that would be a great lippy to take on hols with me. hopefully il get a nice tan seeing as im fairly pale the rest of the year

Wear a propper sunscreen under your makeup, some of those cosmetics with spf in it don't work as well.

I would go with a very minimal makeup.. for me, when I went to the Philippines for 3 weeks, I ended up bringing more makeup than I actually put to use :p My day-to-day look consisted of:

- MAC Prep + Prime (SPF 50) -- definitely do not forego the sunscreen!
- MAC Blot powder over T-zone
- MAC eyeshadow in either Naked Lunch or Jest w/ waterproof liner (use a tiny bit of primer underneath e/s)
- Lip conditioner w/ SPF (I brought Blistex with me)
- And for special occasions, a sweep or two of Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick in Bronze, because it enhances a tan beautifully (and could also double up as eyeshadow)

No need for blush, as your cheeks will almost always have a nice natural flush to them from the heat

The thing is with sunscreen-especially avobenzene-it degrades on your skin within 2 hours, bringing free radicals into your pores-which will age you faster than if you did not use sunscreen. You have to apply it every 2 hours or skip it! A mineral makeup containing zinc is a much better sunscreen choice, and these mineral makeups do not run in the humidity. Skip the moisturizer, unless you have the driest skin ever. Moisturizer doesn't prevent wrinkles, and the humidity is moisture enough.
Pack multitaskers. I travel alot, and I live on a tropical island. So I rely on NARS multiples. They are fat sticks of cream powder pigment. They turn into powder and can be used on lips, cheeks, eyes and as a face glow. Malibu, St. Barts, South Beach and Copacabana (makes a good eye base and highlighter) are my travel partners, and they don't spill , crush, or fall apart so you can throw them in a purse and carry them on the plane.
