Grape Pigment... the horror

I recently got a sample of Grape pigment and I thought i would love it. It is such a pretty colour of purple. I can't get the bloody thing to work for me. I tried it on my crease and it looked like I was punched and didn't come out evenly. It was horrible. I tried it as a wash on my lid and again didn't apply evenly and was very chalky.

Has anybody else had these problems with Grape? I have seen a few FOTD with Grape used and it looks beautiful. Why can't I get it to work for me??? I have dark brown hair, dark brown eyes, & NW20. Purples look fantastic on me.

I would welcome any suggestions or comments on what to try. I don't want to give up on yet because it is so beautiful. I know if i can get it to work... I would LOVE it.

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm...what type of base are you using? Maybe try a different type of base than you normally would.

After picking up some pigment w/ your 219, tap your brush on the edge of the container to get rid of excess. Since grape is pretty dark, you don't need a lot of product. Use in your crease, but only about 2/3-3/4 from the outer to the inner, not going completely in. Also define the outer V. Windshield wiper motion back &forth. Then take your 217 or 224, with a lighter purple, like Lovely Lily or Viz-a-Violet, &do the same thing, only going in small circular motions as you windshield wipe to soften the grape.

HTH!

I agree with Lethaldesign. I have ths sample too, and I (pressed enter, opps) managed to get it working, Aggggges ago I would wear it with shimma paint and used it only on the outter v (not sure how this would look now im maybe wiser!).I think if I tried using it in the crease i`d look a little bruised too! Hth? :S

i think if u use a creamier base it would help. like a ccb or something since its chalky the cream base can help blend it out better.

Thanks for the help. I am going to try to put something softer over it to lighten it up a bit. Also, i will try a paint pot as a base and hopefully that will help the chalkiness of it.

Grape is one of those much harder pigments to work with unfortunately! Its is supposed to be a frost but blends like a matte and definitely has that "punched" look to it if you arent careful blending...lol! Try making sure you have a good base - the UDPP and other popular bases can be quite hard to blend mattes over as they can be a little dry so try using a true frost over your regular base before you apply the Grape p/g - something neutral or skin toned, maybe naked, vanilla or fairylite p/g. The frost pigments move more easily and will give you a better blending base for things like the mattes or p/g like grape and even entremauve. Be careful with the cream bases and paints as bases for grape especially - they can end up looking cakey and clumpy if the base wasnt applied super smoothly to begin with or if you use to much base. Hope this helps!
