the best tip to grow out hair is actually trimming it. I know sounds like that would be defeating the purpose but it actually promotes hair growth. I would say to trim about a half inch or so about ever 1-2 months... for some reason the hair grows more quickly if you start trimming it regularly. The earlier you do it in the day the better. I used to have super long hair for all of my life and i recently cut it above my shoulders... my hair has grown so much already because I do this.

Jessica Simpson/Ken Paves clip in extensions. On QVC (or is is HSN?) Love them! They'll help if you can't wait.

Trimming your hair doesn't promote growth, but it does ensure the hair you grow will be healthy.

There's not much you can do but just be patient...

Yeah trimming is is just that, defeating the purpose. I cut my hair about 2 times a year, and that's just to get some layers in there and get some body.
Why people say to trim it of ten is because if you get split ends, the split ends will travel up the hair and you'll end up needing to cut quite a bit, so it's best to trim it every 6-8 weeks if you have problems with split ends.

The best tip is to try and keep your mind of it, the more you think about it the slower it seems to grow. I remember some years ago I got a horrible bob cut and I would look at my hair everyday in the mirror begging it to GROW, then school started and I got busy and hey! My hair is long! When did that happen?

i'll copy and paste what i just said on another post about growing out hair...

Hair myth number 1: Trimming your ends DOES NOT make your hair grow faster by any means. FACT. don't let that fool you.

If your hair grows at 1 inch per month, then it grows at 1 inch per month... how on earth is doing anything to the ends of your hair that is say 2 years or more old (depending on the length of your hair) going to do anything to the roots? By getting your trimmed, you are removing the dead ends of your hair (all hair is dead technically but I won't go into that) therefore you will get less breakage, therefore your hair will 'grow' instead of breaking and staying the same length. It is still growing the same rate as always.

The average persons hair grows about 1 inch per four weeks. However everyones hair grows at different rates. The best advice I can give is wait it out. As Calhoune said, don't think about it and keep your mind off it.

I would say that it would grow about 2 more years to get the length that you want. For me my hair was totally damaged and it was shoulder length so what I did was trim my hair every 3-6 months about 1 inch. I've used a deep conditioner once a week. I stopped coloring it for awhile and used less heating tools. It took me three years to get my hair back to its healthy self again and now its passed my shoulders touching the back of my bra.

What also helped was massaging oil onto your scalp and let it sit for 10-20 minutes then wash it out with your regular shampoo. That can also help speed up the growth. You can use coconut oil or olive oil.

Also taking vitamins and eating healthier helps a bit too.

HTH!

Prenatal vitamins can help you grow your hair, but there are tons of other vitamins that can help grow your hair also. Examples: Biotin and MSM come to mind. There are alot of hair, skin, and nail vitamins out there that work really well also.

Also I dont agree with all the extra trimming. You should get a hair cut or a trim if your hair is damaged. You dont need to trim periodically just because its a routine. You need only to trim when you have to such as you have split ends. Trimming jus to trim really defeats the purpose of trying to grow out your hair.
