and i don't know what to do!

one thing is for sure - I want to get rid of a lot of the length. my hair is currently long, and i hate it. it has no volume at the roots because of it's own weight. as a result it looks lovely and wavey on the ends, but always looks flat on top (like the dreaded hat-hair).

i want to go shoulder length or shorter to get the volume back... but i'm not sure if i should just do layers to shoulder length or if i should take the plunge go shorter.

my main concern is the maintenance involved. is anyone able to tell me which length would be lower maintenance? I don't have time to straighten/blowdry all the time, so i'd love to have a style that can be worn wavey/curly as well as straight.

the shoulder length has always taken some work to wear wavey as i still had to coax it a bit and use product to get waves all over. would making it shorter make it easier?

why dont you start with long layers first, you can have them cut it at shoulder length, that way you can see if you like it befor you take the plunge.. if you dont want alot of maintenance ask for blunt long layers, that way if you want to grow it back out it grows out nice that way with out looking shaggy, also dont let them over texturize or use the razor it makes your ends fragile, a lil texturizeing is ok, if they do it tell them to use the scissors technique not razor

i've always had layers in my hair so i know what it looks like at shoulder length. (I've just been lazy and not gone to the hairdresser for a few months, which is why my hair has grown out).

still confused... i will ask the hairdresser. wish me luck!
