Hair dying help

I've been planning on dying my hair black in the front (I have naturally dark hair, but I just need to remove my current situation of green side bangs) and red in the back.
Before I can do this, I need to fist get it approved by my mom by showing her pictures, and of course, figuring out how I'd do it.
Does anyone have any advice.
The only picture of found is of Gerard Way (yes, the man with the red and black hair)

if i were you, i'd go to a salon and ask them to do it. box dyes are shitty and never turn out exactly how you want it. plus, if you need to correct it, you have no idea how the chemicals will react with the new dye. If you go to a salon, you alteast know that if you go back to correct it, or change it in a month or two, they be able to take into consideration what you had on your hair last time, and be able to get you the result you want without guess work.

I agree with going to a salon to get it done but if you want to do it at home

Buy some powder bleach with either 20 or 30 volume developer, depending on your natural hair colour. 20 volume if you're more blonde, 30 if you're anything darker then dark blonde. I use 30 volume normally, though.

Buy a red dye. Special Effects, Manic Panic, Raw, Punky Colours are all good choices. I'd get Special effects if possible, it is pretty much the best hair dye ever.

Get a little dye brush thing and have at it. It may be difficult to do the back by yourself so ask a friend or your mom for help :3

also, red is one of the fastest fading hair dyes, so it requires a lot of upkeep xc

Hope to help :3

My dad was the same way when I was in high school (he had to approve), but I reminded him that it's hair-- It will wash out or grow out.

I remember for a full year in high school, my hair was either a deep blue or purple with black. I say, reasure your mum that your dying your hair with semi or demi permanet hair colour. If your planning to bleach the hair... yes, go to a salon, let a professional do it (if your not familiar with bleach, you may damamge your hair then it will snap off). A few years back, my "hair fad" was black hair with chunky red highlights underneath. Recently, my cousin (who is a stylist) dyed my hair black and magenta.

I also think the original PertPlus shampoo strips your hair of color (but I think there's other shampoos that do that). Let the green come out b/c you don't want to risk mixing colors (Green + Red= ?). If your serious about the black, go with permanent color (well, there is no such thing as "permanent" b/c it fades). And if your not serious, go with a semi- or demi- hair color (found at Hot Topic, random websites, local rock/punk based stores, costume stores, etc.-- OfferJenny mentioned some brands).
