hair growth

My hair used to grow really fast, it was about halfway down my back when I decided to cut it to about chin length. Ever since then, it's only grown to about my shoulders or a bit past my shoulders, but even then it grows sooo slow!

My hair lady told me it was b/c I straightened my hair everyday, so I stopped doing that. Now I only straighten it about twice a week and wear it naturally the rest of the week...I started trimming it more regularly, and now it grows even slower. I also take vitamins which I've been told helps...

So my question is, anybody know of good ideas to help my hair grow faster?

trimming your hair actually doesn't help it grow faster, that's a myth

it just keeps it looking healthier.

straightening your hair will cause heat damage which can result in breakage, which is why your stylist recommended against it. but, you can invest in a heat protecting serum for your hair and just use that, then you can continue to straighten as usual without all the damage!

have you tried taking Biotin? try to eat foods high in calcium and protein, also

Hair growth also has a lot to do with hormone levels in the body. Between then and now you may have started/stopped hormonal BC, your body might have altered its natrual hormone production, etc etc etc.

That and you're probably more aware of your hair now that it's more visible, and obsessing over it has a 'watched pot' effect.

Maybe your hair just slowed down from metabolism changes caused by aging (not like...AGING...but like...generally...ya know?)

Otherwise there isnt much to do about hair growth. Eat healthy, keep your hair healthy, and it will grow at its optimal velocity.

your hair on average grows about 1/2 a month. it might seem like its growing slower just because you want it to grow so badly. but its true you should get a monthly trim just to keep it healthy. if you don't you could end up with such horribly damaged ends that you'd have to cut it all the way off anyway. no vitamin, and no food will help you grow your hair faster.. just take good care of it, its all you really can do.

If hair only grows 1/2 in. a month, how in the world is it supposed to grow out at all by getting a monthly trim? Everyone knows that stylists estimate when they trim or cut ( lol never met a hair stylist who used a tape measurer), so sometimes they cut even more than 1/2 in. when they trim. I'm personally growing my hair out and I get it trimmed every 4 - 6 months...and my ends aren't horribly damaged, at all.
I still say if you take good care of your hair and keep it in good condition, you can wait as long as you want to cut it...I personally believe a monthly trim is a scam...so hair stylists can make more money on a regular basis...I've even had stylist friends of mine tell me this.
Also, I read in Allure (I know, not exactly a valid source) that Biotin has been scientifically proven to stimulate hair growth...I've seen it work for me personally as well. I mean if nothing else, it definitely strengthens your hair, which may keep it from breaking.

Just be as nice to your hair as you possibly can, don't over-wash, over-dye, over-style or "over-flatiron" and all that.
Also it's said that B-vitamin and biotin helps stimulate hairgrowth, you might notice a difference with some.
Mostly the hair gets stronger, but if it does grow faster, be ready to shave/wax more because it grows everywhere!

Some say trimming the ends once a month helps when growing out hair, but I can't figure out how they reason. Sure it'll keep the split ends away, but when is the hair supposed to grow??
Also, I've only been to a hairdresser twice in my life

None of the times to get my ends trimmed, I just used to have my mom cut my hair.
And no my hair is not a burr of split-ends.
So as another girl said, maybe get your ends trimmed 2-3 times a year.

Lastly: Don't obsess!! If you think about your hair alot, and how much you want it to grow it's just going appear to be growing slower to you because you want it so bad.
That's what happened to me, it felt like my hair wasn't growing at all, then I looked a a picture from 3-4 months ago and realized it HAS become alot longer.
Don't worry, it'll grow!

One caution with taking B-vitamins.....They are fat soluble, meaning you dont just get rid of the excess...it stores itself in your fat...which isnt a problem unless you are fat and then you lose weight and burn all that fat and end up ODing on all the fat soluble vitamins youve taken.

i agree
if your hair grows a inch or so a month and you go to the hairdressers and get a inch cut off your hairs going to be the same for a AWFUL long time

yeah i don't obsess about it as much as i used to, some people tell me it helps their hair grow faster when they get a daily trim, others tell me it doesn't help at all other than to trim slip ends. so idk! but thank you anyway ladies.

Cutting your split ends ensures your hair grows in healthy. If you don't do it regularly, you may have extremely damaged hair and have to get a huge cut.

I get my hair cut every 10-12 weeks. I see growth but it isn't a lot.

The other thing is make sure you're eating well. Not only get all your vitamins but also make sure you're not eating or doing things that hinder hair growth; I forget what they are (I'm guessing caffiene, smoking, and similar things) but some things will slow it down.
