Have the dress,need makeup inspiration!

Hi guys! I am in need of inspiration. I'm going to a ball this week and I've just gotten a dress but have no idea how to wear my makeup. This is THE event of our college year...kind of a cross between a formal ball and a mini music festival and I'm just at a loss as to what kind of makeup this requires!!The dress is a black and white polka dotted puffball dress:

Oasis Spot Print Puffball Dress With Next Day Delivery - Womens Fashion Clothing - Oasis Stores UK

I'm thinking of wearing either bright red glittery high heels(which are much less tacky than they sound I promise!) or black satin peep toes..not entirely sure yet, kinda depends on comfort levels

I really need your help to get that wow factor...there's a boy to impress(isn't there always!!)

Thank you so much xx

If i were you i would do a clean, creamy, simple red lip and very luminous skin. i just cant imagine too much on the eyes because i think the drees is ver POP and graphic, and to me, a red lip is as well.

Please not a pin-up red look with liqiud liner lol that look is soooooo worn out!!!!

But honestly, do what makes you comfortable!

The dress screams red lip!

However, they can be high maintenance. Maybe a colorful smoky eye (like purple) as an alternative suggestion?

For me at least, i think red lips do stay on longer over a lipliner, and if you blot your lips with a tissue after one application of the lipstick, then re apply.

Every time I look at the dress I think of red lipstick but this event is outdoors...portaloos,cobblestones,ending at five in the morning and the like so I think red lips are probably out, would look awesome for a while but would like to avoid the drunken photos with smeared lipstick if at all possible!

I'm always in favor of a bold matte red lipstick with a black winged liner. Classy!

ETA: Maybe you could look into one of those longwear lipsticks?

If not, then the next thing that came to mind is a very bold vivid blue eye (perhaps electric eel) nothing too complicated or over done though. i think it would look great with black shoes too!

I'll keep the smeared lipstick look in mind

but I really like the idea of a coloured smokey eye, I had been contemplating silvers and grey/black but I think that it would be a little harsh on NW15,pigment-challenged me. I thought of golds and bronzes but it's a little too much like my everyday look.

I did my freinds makeup and she is NW15 (i kow because i had to buy concealor specificlly for her lol) and i did a matte black eye with a silver highlight in the inner V, and C-Thru on her lips.

I didnt think it was too harsh, but thats just my opinion.

To be honest, I've never really tried it, I've always just shied away from it on the assumption that it would be too dark. I may have to give it a whirl this weekend and see how it turns out. I think that a smokey eye/nude lip might hold up best over the course of the night though and would probably have the required impact!

I love the idea of a blue and silver smoky eye with a pale pink or nude lip. You could go with a less high-maintenance red lip by using Venetian lustreglass or another red lip gloss.

I would say this is very versatile.

1) Bold lips (red, orange, hot pink, violet, whatever color you like) with very neutral eyes and loud lashes.

2) Steamy smoky eyes with neutral lips.

If you don't want to go for the red lip, how about a 60's inspired look? The focus is on the eyes- especially the lashes- leaving the lips low-maintenance. Here's an example of the kind of thing I mean:

If you're NW15 then a pink blush can add some pretty colour to your face.
I don't think that dark, smokey colours are necessarily harsh- what is your hair and eye colour?

I would wear the dress with the black peep toes and wear a bold mattish cool pink like pink noveau lipstick, dark eyes and bright pink toenails with the peeptoes.

I adore this!!! I had been thinking that I would go with Satin Taupe,Mystery and Carbon on the lid and maybe a pop of blue underneath but this has totally swayed me! I dunno if its just me being silly but I feel like very dark eyes kind of wash me out...I have red/auburn hair and greenish eyes,NW 15 is just about an okay shade for me,it's almost too dark but not quite.

Thanks so much to everybody who has replied...I really really appreciate it

I would definitely rock the peep toes...with dramatic eyes (silver gray smokey?) and downplayed lips. and an updo to emphasize architecture of the dress. Diamond stud earrings and classic cuff bracelet.

I love the dress!
