Having some trouble with lipsticks

I knew I was getting MAC for Christmas, so I was making a list of things I wanted. I pretty much knew Viva Glam V was going to be perfect (it was) so I got that. The other lipsticks on my list were:
Fresh Brew
Hug Me

Fresh Brew was not a pretty brown to me, it was like a muddy dirt color. I didn't like it. Now I asked the MA if I could try Hug Me and she handed me Blankety instead. So I tried Blankety...way too nude. Then when I asked her for Hug Me again, she told me that since my skin had so much yellow in it, I probably would look best in colors like the ones she showed me, and not pinks.

I'm not trying to say she doesn't know what she's talking about, but I was kind of upset. I asked her twice if I could try Hug Me and she still wouldn't give it to me! lol...I just felt uncomfortable asking her again. This was my very first "real" trip to MAC and I just wanted to try the damn lipstick on.

I need some more recommendations. I'd rather not have dramatic, dark lips because thats not my thing. I just want a variety of colors-pinks, beige, browns, etc. that don't all look exactly the same and that fit my skin tone. An everyday lipstick...that doesn't make my lips look all dried out. I am a C4 in studio fix and heres a picture of me.

What about Barely Lit or Sophisto for pinks? Barely Lit (if you can find it) is a nice pale pinky-gold. And Sophisto is a pretty sheer raspberry. Pink Aperitif is a nice pink with a hint of brown. For a brownish color, you might try Entwined.

I agree with frocher, she should've let you try it. I still think you should because i love hug me and it's my everyday lipstick colour which i wear when i just want a little hint of colour.

My friend liked hug me on me and she wanted to try it but it didn't look nude on her like it did on me so the MA gave her Twig and it looked good. I would say try Twig and STILL try Hug Me.

i think nearly anyone can wear hug me, i have it and imnc30 blonde i actually think its more of a brown lippy than pink , totally try it x

I love Hug me on me...I think it was one my first lipsticks. I am pretty much your color nc40, i have a warm complextion and Hug Me is the perfect nude pinkish.

Just wanted to add you need to go back and get that Hug Me lipstick and Honeyflower! Those will totally look awesome on you, hun.

You NEED to try on Hug me, it's still my fav nude pink lipstick (it seems to work great on a variety of skintones). For a warmer neutral, try underplay.
